  • Patent number: 4019759
Abstract: For use in a multi-page book, an index system comprising elongated flat transparent plastic index tabs each affixed by a strip of transparent adhesive tape. The tab overlies one edge of an associated page, projecting slightly outward therefrom so as to present an indicia bearing end and projecting a substantially greater distance inwardly thereof, terminating in an inner end. The transparent adhesive tape overlies the inner end, overlapping both the adjacent inner portion of the tab and the page face, providing a point of attachment substantially inward of the page edge. Removal of the tab for reuse is effected by a rotation of the tab about the adhesively secured inner edge, partially peeling the tape back so as to enable a complete exposure of the tab and a twisting removal thereof from the tape, the tape subsequently being reapplied to the page.

  • Patent number: 4017994
Abstract: An arrangement for increasing the life, readability, and security of credit cards and similar elements having a portion to receive an authorized signature. Supplied with the card or thereon is a strip of transparent material having one adhesive surface, sized to cover the signature portion of the element. When this strip is applied to the element in overlay relation to the signature, it protects the latter from smudging and rubbing off, which occasionally occurs to the point that an alarm underlay begins to appear. Any attempt to peel off the tape and alter the signature results in appearance of the alarm underlay.

  • Patent number: 4017101
Abstract: A letter of credit device consisting of the combination of a card and a check. The card has a plurality of numerical columns each of which is headed by a numeral and also a plurality of transaction sections extending across the numerical columns and having a punch out element in each of the numerical columns so that, by selective punch outs, the dollar value of each of the transactions is irrevocably recorded. The check and card each identify the issuing bank and the account number of the holder. In addition the card carries an identification of the holder, including his signature, and also states the terms under which a negotiating party is guaranteed payment for any sum paid under the negotiated transaction. The check also has a punch out section, which the negotiating party punches out, before forwarding the check for payment to the issuing bank, as a representation that the negotiation was under the card and in accordance with the terms on the card.

  • Patent number: 4013370
Abstract: A tooth-brush carries its own supply of tooth paste in a removable cartridge inserted into the tooth-brush handle. The tooth paste is discharged through a passage from the cartridge to a flexible nipple located between the tooth-brush bristles. A piston is located in the cartridge to push the tooth paste towards the bristles. The piston has a groove engaging a longitudinal rib of the cartridge to prevent rotation of the piston. A screw is threaded through the piston and has a head urged forwardly by a spring abutting against a cap rigid with the tooth-brush handle. Upon screwing of the screw by a knob at the end of the tooth-brush body, the screw is caused to move rearwardly to a limit position to thereby compress the spring. The cocked spring produces slow and uniform discharge of a measured amount of tooth paste over the bristles by moving the screw and, therefore, the piston forwardly.

  • Patent number: 4009892
Abstract: A bank check includes a secret alphanumeric code designation known only to the correct payee which is covered with a light-impervious cover having a light-sensitive material micro-encapsulated in the surface adjacent to the surface of the bank check. The light-sensitive material is released in a predetermined pattern by pressure exerted against the combination of the cover and the check so that whenever the cover is removed, the light-sensitive material is exposed and the pattern becomes visible to thereby make premature removal detectible.
