  • Patent number: 3938268
Abstract: An index system for indexing directories such as telephone books includes a paper guide strip positioned adjacent a film plastic tab strip segmented into a plurality of uniquely identified tabs spaced along the tab strip. The guide and tab strips are coupled to one another along adjacent edges by means of an adhesive transfer strip extending the length of the guide and tab strips along the junction thereof on one side. As tabs are removed for application, the pressure-sensitive adhesive is transferred to the tabs while the guide and transfer strips serve as a guide for positioning the tabs on the pages of the directory.

  • Patent number: 3938898
Abstract: A swab or applicator utilizing a generally pliable or bendable tubular member of plastic or similar material having one end inserted into and gripped by a gripping chuck and the other end provided with an absorbent swab of cotton or other natural or synthetic material with a passage being exposed at the tip end of the swab for discharging material therethrough and applying such material to a desired location. The inner end of the tubular member is beveled and provided with roughened surface area portions to facilitate the gripping thereof. Various chuck adapters mount the tubular member on containers having structural characteristics enabling the contents of the container to be discharged from the opening in the tip end of the swab. A closure disk is provided in the chuck adapter to maintain the contents of the container sealed until ready for use.

  • Patent number: 3937493
Abstract: Labels for file folders that each has a self-adhesive backed surface and in a non-folded position has a front surface with a given letter of the alphabet printed on one half and the same letter of the alphabet printed on the other half at right angles to the first mentioned letter for permitting the label to be used either for top tab filing or end tab filing. In either case, with the label properly positioned on the file folder, and the file properly placed in a vertical position in a file cabinet, one letter will be upright on the desired side of the tab to which the label is adhered. Thirteen distinctive colors are keyed to the first 13 letters of the alphabet as a solid block, and the same 13 colors are used for the second half of the alphabet with strips (bands) through the colored portions of the labels.

  • Patent number: 3937582
Abstract: A fountain toothbrush is described which comprises a bristle carrier, a set of bristles on the carrier near one end thereof, a rigid handle connected to the bristle carrier at an end of the latter remote from the bristles, and a reservoir for liquid or pasty dentifrice in the handle, wherein the bristle carrier has a duct therethrough leading from the bristle carrier to an outlet near or between the bristles; furthermore piston means mounted on the bristle carrier, and outlet means associated with the reservoir, the aforesaid piston being sealingly guided in the outlet means and adapted for displacement in the outlet means toward and away from the reservoir, whereby dentifrice is caused to flow from the reservoir through the duct towards the bristles by a short displacement of the piston in the outlet means toward the reservoir.

  • Patent number: 3936200
Abstract: A toothbrush having a brushing unit and a dentifrice-containing cartridge unit. The cartridge unit is shaped to permit it to be comfortably held in the hand and has a squeezable wall for the purpose of expelling dentifrice from the dentifrice-containing chamber therein. A dentifrice passage extending from the dentifrice chamber to the brushing unit is normally closed by a valve which opens by the force of the dentifrice when the cartridge is squeezed. The cartridge has a check valve to allow air to replace used up dentifrice.

  • Patent number: 3936199
Abstract: A cleaner for carpets, rugs and the like has a roller or brush or the like by means of which cleaning foam is to be applied to the particular textile. It is further provided with two or more chambers, each adapted to contain a chemical component. The chemical components in the several chambers are of the type which, upon contact with one another, will spontaneously react and produce foam for cleaning purposes. An arrangement is provided for permitting the controlled contacting of these components with one another so as to produce the requisite foam which is supplied to the roller or brush.

  • Patent number: 3933415
Abstract: A painting system has a container and a flexible wall with a source of pressure on the flexible wall for extending the flexible wall toward the paint and forcing paint through an opening, a valve and a conducting tube into an applicator. A membrane is fitted inside a container, and a cover is placed over the container. Ordinary water pressure from a tap is fed through the hose into the membrane area forcing the membrane toward the paint, and forcing the paint from the container. In one applicator, paint is fed into a hollow tube which is turnable to align openings in a tube wall with distributors which communicate the paint to a plurality of tubes. Paint flows through the selected tubes through an array of openings in paint distributing surfaces. A relatively narrow, pointed surface extends outward from a relatively large circular surface. An auxiliary distributing surface extends perpendicularly to the pointed surface. A sponge roller is provided with a fitted cover and is positioned over a foraminous tube.

  • Patent number: 3932043
Abstract: An applicator is described which is especially adapted for applying lane conditioner, wax and other fluids to bowling lanes for the purpose of cleaning and conditioning the lanes, and to distribute said fluids uniformly and quickly thereover. The applicator comprises a pan-like member having perforations for passage of said fluids therethrough, a mop-like member removably secured to said pan-like member, a pad of highly absorbent, porous and compressible material disposed in said pan-like member, a fluid distributor reservoir supported by said pad, and means, including a handle secured to said distributor reservoir, and effective upon pressure applied thereto to compress the pad and cause fluid to be ejected from said pad through said perforations directly to the surface being conditioned and spread by said mop-like member. Means are provided for removably latching said reservoir to said pan-like member.

  • Patent number: 3930673
Abstract: A lottery ticket which consists of a continuous strip of sheet material is perforated along predetermined lines and folded to provide a three-layer ticket in which the lottery number is placed on the bottom layer. The perforations are disposed in the two upper layers and define areas that can be readily broken to form lug portions. The ticket number on the bottom layer can be revealed only by pulling on the lug portions which will tear off along the perforated lines. In this manner the ticket is permanently and irreparably altered.
