  • Patent number: 4594906
Abstract: In a tractor power take-off mechanism comprising an input shaft driveable from an engine by a friction clutch and a two-speed power take-off shaft driveable from the input shaft by gearing including a disengageable toothed driving member operable by a hand lever by way of a selector fork, the disengageable toothed driving member can be difficult and noisy to engage because the input shaft tends to rotate due to inertia and drag when the friction clutch is disengaged. The input shaft is therefore provided with a band brake applied by initial movement of the hand lever in a direction to engage the disengageable toothed driving member and held applied while an operating load is being exerted on the lever in that direction. A conventional detent holding the selector fork in disengaged position provides the resistance required to cause the brake to be applied before the lever can move the fork into engaged position.

  • Patent number: 4593576
Abstract: An internally and externally threaded double nut is screwed onto the threaded shaft of a stepper motor. The nut is restrained from rotational motion thereby limiting it to translation along the shaft axis. An internally threaded output sleeve is screwed onto the external thread of the double threaded nut. The pitch of the nut internal thread is smaller than that of the external thread so that rotary motion reduction occurs at the output sleeve. A ball bearing is positioned in contacting support between the sleeve and the shaft thereby minimizing output sleeve tolerance accumulations of eccentricity and axial positioning.

  • Patent number: 4593574
Abstract: Torque-dependent pressing device for a ball-type planetary gear set, includes a pressure plate which is mounted for joint rotation with the driving shaft of the set and for axial displacement relative to a freely rotatable race which supports the planetary balls. The facing surfaces of the pressure plate and of the race are inclined and engage a plurality of conical or spherical rolling bodies. A radial cam, either in the form of a sinusoidal continuous groove or in the form of arcuate discrete guiding grooves, is formed in the pressure plate to engage the rolling bodies and displace the same radially relative to the driving shaft when a torque develops between the facing inclined surfaces. The rolling bodies are guided in radial direction to perform a rolling motion about a helical path until the torque is neutralized. The pressure plate is spring-biased in axial direction against the freely rotatable race.

  • Patent number: 4593571
Abstract: An apparatus and method for displacing a linear output member by wrapping at least a pair of flexible strands around the periphery of the linear member. The flexible strands are each attached at each end to spaced-apart rotatable members. Rotation of the rotatable members in opposite direction causes engagement of the flexible strands with the linear member as a wrap around the periphery of the linear member. After a grip is effected on the linear member, rotation of the rotatable members in the same direction causes the linear member to be linearly displaced.
