Patent number: 5939687Abstract: A knee-operated switch for a working machine, the switch including a carrier supported to the machine and a profile extending off the carrier at an angle to the profile. The profile includes first and second elongate, parallel electric contact strips that are normally separated. Sheathing over at least one of the strips is deflectable to in turn deflect the contact strips into engagement. Support strips support the contact strips normally apart until the contact strips are deflected together. A flexible elastic housing over the sheathing and the strips is deflectable to deflect the sheathing to move the contact strips together. The switch profile extends over a length so that actuation can take place at different actuating points along the profile.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1998Date of Patent: August 17, 1999Assignee: Durkopp Adler AktiengellschaftInventor: Rolf Ellermann

Patent number: 5939689Abstract: The invention relates to a matrix switching device (1) having a plurality of contact devices positioned in selected crosspoints between rows and columns, with each contact device including at least one movable contact element (2a). The device further includes a plurality of row-related, reciprocatingly movable first rods (3), a plurality of column-related reciprocatingly movable second rods (4, 4'), a plurality of electrically insulating balls (2h, 2g) of which each is allotted a selected crosspoint and is movable in response to movement of one or both of the rods (3, 4). Two mutually adjacent balls (2g, 2h) are provided at each selected crosspoint. A first ball (2g) has a larger diameter than a second ball (2h), and the first ball is so dimensioned that when moving it causes the movable contact element (2a) to move in one direction, and the second ball (2h) is so dimensioned as to have no effect on the movable contact irrespective of said movement.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1998Date of Patent: August 17, 1999Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM EricssonInventor: Sture Gosta Roos

Patent number: 5933671Abstract: A touch sensitive electronic switch for a camera comprises a pair of front and rear cover parts of the camera that constitute separate electrical conductors which when temporarily bridged by one's hand allow a direct current path between the front and rear cover parts, and an insulator configured to fill a space between the front and rear cover parts in order that the front and rear cover parts and the insulator together define a housing for the camera.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1998Date of Patent: August 3, 1999Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Thomas M. Patent number: 5923007Abstract: A switch assembly (100) includes a first switch (102), a second switch (104) and a third switch (106). The switch assembly further includes a rocker actuator (108) having a first rocker arm (152) and a second rocker arm (154) and a selector actuator (110). The rocker actuator pivots about a post (158) to actuate the first switch or the second switch. The selector actuator is disposed between the first switch and the second switch to slidingly actuate the third switch. In one application, a radiotelephone (800, 904) includes a switch assembly (840). A controller (914) responds to actuations of the rocker actuator and the selector actuator to control storage of data in a memory (926) and display of data in the display (818, 918).Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1997Date of Patent: July 13, 1999Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventor: Steven C. Emmert

Patent number: 5911316Abstract: A device for manually turning-on at least one circuit-breaker from the front panel of a cabinet includes at least one sleeve having a front end and a rear end. The sleeve extends through an aperture in the front panel and is movable between a backward position, in which the front end of the sleeve projects slightly from the front panel, and a forward position, in which the front end of the sleeve projects away from the front panel. A spring is compressed to push the sleeve from the forward position to the backward position. A rod is operably connected to the sleeve so as to be displaced following the forward movement of the sleeve and to remain in its position uneffected by the backward movement of the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1998Date of Patent: June 15, 1999Assignee: Acbel Polytech, Inc.Inventor: Chien-Ming Chu

Patent number: 5900603Abstract: Control levers have utilized various switch assemblies mounted within the grasping portion thereof to control multiple machine functions. The mounting of the switch assembly within the control lever typically provides an opening in the control lever that is somewhat larger that the switch assembly to accommodate relative movement therebetween. In many instances problems have been encountered because foreign matter is allowed to enter the interior of the control handle through a space that exists between the switch and the control lever. The present invention provides a seal plate between the a switch member and a cover member defined by the control lever. The seal plate is positioned about the switch member to cover the opening between the switch member and the cover member. The seal plate is continually biased into engagement within a relieved portion defined on an interior surface of the cover member by an abutment portion defined by the switch member during the full range of movement of the switch member.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1997Date of Patent: May 4, 1999Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventor: Jeff A. Patent number: 5894116Abstract: A safety switch including a control head rotatably linked to a casing that encloses an electrical contact assembly. A cylindrical collar of the head, engaged in an opening in the casing, is equipped with an annular groove with which retaining elements cooperate in order to immobilize the head along a predetermined direction. A fixing screw cooperates with re-entrant elements situated on the periphery of the collar in order to lock the head and prevent the head from rotating.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1997Date of Patent: April 13, 1999Assignee: Schneider Electric SAInventor: Hugues Da Dalt

Patent number: 5866864Abstract: An electric arc extinguishing mechanism is provided for an electric current switching apparatus of the type having a pair of contacts which selectively engage to complete an electric circuit. The mechanism includes a plurality of splitter plates located adjacent to the contacts and formed of electrically conductive material. Each splitter plate has a body of electrically conductive material, and a casing with a pair of planar portions on opposite sides of the body and connected by the curved edge portion. The edge portion is adjacent the contacts with the planar portions extending from the edge portion in an open loop having a gap. Any arc introduced between adjacent splitter plates moves around the open loop before being extinguished thereby not residing in one spot long enough to cause gross melting and associated erosion of the splitter plate.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1997Date of Patent: February 2, 1999Assignee: Eaton CorporationInventors: Hemant K.
