  • Patent number: 6662960
Abstract: A blow-molded plastic bottle body for use in containing hot-filled beverages. The bottle body has a dome with various interactive functional zones. For example, some of the zones are primarily responsible for accommodating vacuum absorption, while other zones are primarily intended to rigidify the container such as by providing column strength to improve container top loading capability. Although each zone may have a primary function, each zone also aids adjacent zones in providing their functions. Thus, the entire dome, and not merely selected locations, reacts in a progressive manner to the forces generated by the hot-fill process on the bottle body. Preferably, the bottle body is slender and capable of readily being gripped by a single hand, and preferably the flex panels in the dome accommodate at least 90% of the total vacuum absorption required by the bottle.

  • Patent number: 6659299
Abstract: A plastic blow molded container (10) is disclosed as including a freestanding base structure (20) that is constructed with a plurality of alternating hollow legs (22) and curved ribs (34), and a hub (41) from which the legs and ribs extend radially with a construction that provides good stability against tipping as well as the capability of withstanding internal pressure. Each rib (34) has an outer upper end (36) with a circumferential width Wu and an inner lower end (38) with a circumferential width Wl that is greater than the circumferential width Wu of the upper rib end so the lower rib end is capable of resisting stress cracking. An intermediate rib portion (40) of a curved shape tapers between the ends with an included angle B in the range of about 1° to 8° and preferably about 2°.

A tamper-indicating band is frangibly connected to an edge of the skirt, and a stop flange extends axially and radially from an edge of the band for abutment with a stop bead on the container finish. A plurality of circumferentially spaced drain openings extend axially through the juncture of the band and the flange. A plurality of circumferentially spaced channels extend axially through the internal thread on the closure skirt, with at least some of the channels being axially aligned with the drain openings. The stop bead on the container is in the form of a plurality of circumferentially spaced bead segments separated from each other by circumferential gaps.

  • Patent number: 6655544
Abstract: A container with a lid (10) comprises a container body (11), a lid (23) supported for turning on the container body (11) and a rubber plate (950) provided between the container body (11) and the lid (23). The lid (23) is provided with a stopping projection (32)that engages a catching projection 33 formed in an operating member (55) provided on the container body (11). A slider (60) is supported so as to be slidable on the container body (11). A recess (51) is formed at the lower end of the operating member (55) and a protrusion (61) is formed on the slider (60). In a state where the protrusion (61) of the slider (60) and the recess (51) of the operating member (55) are dislocated from each other, the operating member (55)is restrained from downward movement. Thus the mischievous opening of the lid (23) by children can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 6655540
Abstract: A strap mounting space is formed around a boss formed on an upper cover and a lower cover which, when assembled together, form a case for an apparatus. One, or each, of the upper cover and the lower cover is/are formed integrally with a respective boss, preferably at each corner, so that the respective bosses at corresponding, common corners of the upper and lower covers, when assembled, are in an aligned and abutting relationship. A slits is formed in one of the corners of the upper and lower covers, extending around the respective boss(es) thereof, making up a strap mounting space. A screw 9 is inserted into a corresponding axial hole extending through each boss, affording a sufficient strength of the abutting bosses for supporting the case, with the apparatus therein, by a strap received through the strap mounting space.

  • Patent number: 6648159
Abstract: A collapsible, reusable, general purpose shipping box is made from an inexpensive polymer composition, and can be mass produced by extrusion or coextrusion. The boxes are extruded or coextruded in an almost wasteless production as endless webs of inner layouts and outer layouts, which are folded into respective configurations with one of the configurations being outer one and another inner one. The enclosure is assembled by inserting the inner configuration into the outer one and snap-connecting the complementary male-female locking elements already extruded into the layouts. An extruded web may be many layouts wide as a given extruder and die allow. The boxes can be easily assembled from substantially flat and rectangular layouts at the point of packaging, either by hand or by using a slightly modified and currently widely used box erection machine, and as easily disassembled for transportation and cleansing at the point of unloading.

  • Patent number: 6648162
Abstract: A pressure cooker handle assembly that relieves pressure in the cooker and unlocks the lid by pushing a single button twice. The button includes a tab that directly activates a pressure relief valve to release the pressure and a leg that depresses a stopbar to unlock the lid. Pressing of the button a first time releases the pressure in the cooker, but does not unlock the lid. A latch system prevents the cooker from again building pressure once the button is pressed. When the button is pressed a second time the leg depresses the stopbar to unlock the lid from the cooker.
