    Abstract: A text entry system uses word-level analysis to automatically correct inaccuracies in user keystroke entries. The system determines one or more alternative textual interpretations of each sequence of inputs detected within an auto-correcting keyboard region. The actual contract locations for the keystrokes may occur outside the boundaries of the specific keyboard key regions associated with the actual characters of the word interpretations proposed for selection, where the distance from each contact location to each corresponding intended character may increase with the expected frequency of the intended word in the language or in a particular context. Each such sequence corresponds to a complete word, and the user can easily select the intended word from among the generated interpretations. Once the user selects the desired string, it is automatically accepted for output and the next input detected starts a new input sequence corresponding to the entry of a next word.

    Abstract: A 3D encoder includes a body having several pin cavities. Several pins are also provided, wherein each pin is located within one of the pin cavities and wherein each pin is capable of sliding movement within its pin cavity. Each of the pins is capable of being displaced by contact with a surface of a 3D object to be encoded. A sensing mechanism is provided to determine an amount by which each of the pins is displaced due to contact between that pin and the surface of the 3D object. A computer can be used to translate displacement data into a 3D mapping representative of the 3D object being encoded. A method of creating a computerized representation of a 3D object is also provided and includes placing a 3D object in communication with a plurality of pins to deflect a position of each of the pins contacting the 3D object in an amount corresponding to a shape of a surface of the 3D object.

The electro-optical device includes pixels disposed at intersections between a plurality of scanning lines and a plurality of data lines, a voltage generation circuit for generating a selection voltage having a positive polarity (or a negative polarity) with respect to the center voltage of voltages applied to the data lines, a capacitor for storing the selection voltage, and an inverter circuit for inverting the polarity of the voltage stored in the capacitor with respect to the median voltage, and outputting the resultant voltage as a selection voltage having a negative polarity (or a positive polarity if the selection voltage has a negative polarity).

    Abstract: A method for evaluating the image quality of a color liquid crystal display (LCD), and a system for measuring the modulation transfer function (MTF) for use in the evaluation of the image quality. The image quality evaluation method involves measuring the MTF at a predetermined position on the screen of an LCD, and the image quality is evaluated using the measured MTF. The MTF measuring system, which includes a linear charge coupled device (CCD) camera equipped with a V(&lgr;) filter, is able to accurately measure the image quality of a color LCD by setting the measuring conditions through computer simulation. In addition, the resolution and signal-to-noise characteristics of an image displayed on the screen can be evaluated based on the measured MTF. Also, the problem of truncation of the line spread function (LSF) can be solved by fixing the scanning width. The spectral response characteristics of detectors can be made like those of the human eye using the V(&lgr;) filter.
