  • Patent number: 6618511
Abstract: A method for converting a rectilinear image and a focal length into a cylindrical image parameterized by a height of the cylinder and an angular distance in a single buffer on a remote processing device. The method, on the remote processing device, comprising joining two or more images together to form a panoramic image with corrected perspective. The rectilinear transformation is “in-place” and requires only one buffer. Color correction and motion estimation is also carried out on the remote device. In an alternate embodiment, a computer readable medium corresponding to the above method is described.

  • Patent number: 6618491
Abstract: A moving image data fetch section extracts frame images as well as audio information from moving image data and stores them in a frame memory. A feature amount detection section detects the change of a feature amount included in the frame images constituting the moving image data, and an image selection section selects specific frame images based on the detected image changing characteristics or audio changing characteristics. An image processing section selects a frame image having particularly great change of the image or audio data from among the selected frame images as a to-be-processed image and processes the selected image to have a predetermined expression form. A monitor, a printer or the like outputs the specific frame images selected by the image selection section and the frame image selected and processed by the image processing section as still images.

  • Patent number: 6618503
Abstract: A method for operating a data processing system to generate a full color image from a partially sampled version of the image. The full color image includes a first two-dimensional array of vectors having components representing the intensity of a pixel in the full color image in a corresponding spectral band at a location determined by the location of the vector in the first two-dimensional array. The method generates the first two-dimensional array from a two-dimensional array of scalars. Each scalar determines one of the first, second, or third intensity values at a corresponding location in the two-dimensional array of vectors. The method determines the remaining ones of the first, second, and third intensity values. The method starts by assigning a value to each one of the components of the vectors in the first two-dimensional array of vectors that is not determined by one of the scalars.

  • Patent number: 6614919
Abstract: An individual identification device and a method for extracting an iris region which can extract the iris region with high accuracy even if the shape of a pupil is not circular as in the case of a horse, cattle or the like. Contour lines of the pupil and an granula iridia are extracted from an image inputted. Part of a circle is applied to a contour line of the pupil and a radius of the contour line outside the iris region is estimated by an angle formed by two lines, one to connect both ends of the pupil and the other to pass the center of the circle. An iris circle is estimated by applying part of the circle to the contour line inside and outside the iris region.

  • Patent number: 6606394
Abstract: A surface inspecting apparatus comprises an image achieving unit for achieving an image of a surface of an object; and a controller for providing the symmetry feature of the spot or contaminant by using the magnitude of the intensity gradient and the orientation of the intensity gradient for each pixel of the achieved surface image to thereby detect a spot or contaminant on the surface. The controller detects the spot or contaminant by using a symmetry magnitude map formed by the magnitude of the intensity gradient and the orientation of the intensity gradient of each pixel, after achieving the magnitude of the intensity gradient and the orientation of the intensity gradient by using a gradient operator on the achieved surface image, wherein the symmetry magnitude map provides the internal symmetry feature of the spot or contaminant.

  • Patent number: 6606418
Abstract: Increased and potentially extreme compression of documents is achieved by reducing/remapping the dynamic range of the document image possibly together with further image analysis and pre-processing and storing the document together with a substituted table of values chosen to restore or enhance the dynamic range of the document image. Increased or extreme compression is provided notwithstanding multiple image tones (e.g. colors or grey scale levels) even at low contrast within a document, such as a personal check. Such increased compression allows document images to be maintained in rapid-access memory for extended periods without increased storage costs.

  • Patent number: 6600830
Abstract: An automatic feature extraction system for analyzing a face image and finding the facial features of the face. In the pre-processing stage, a second-chance region growing method is applied to determine a face region on the face image. In the feature extraction stage, three primary facial features, including both eyes and the mouth, are extracted first. Then other facial features can be extracted according to these extracted primary facial features. Searching feature points can be achieved by calculating the cost function of each point using a simple feature template. In addition, a genetic algorithm can be used to accelerate the process of searching feature points.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for inspecting a feature on a wafer surface are provided. In one aspect a method of inspecting a feature on a film surface is provided that includes illuminating the feature with laser radiation and detecting radiation scattered from the feature with a plurality of detectors. Each of the plurality of detectors has a known position. A position of the feature observed by each of the plurality detectors is computed based upon the radiation scattered from the feature. An average position of the positions observed by each of the plurality of detectors is computed. A first value for each of the plurality of detectors is computed that is the scalar product of the known position of a given detector with the difference of the position of the feature observed by that given detector and the average of the positions observed by each of the plurality of detectors.

  • Patent number: 6574349
Abstract: Supplemental data is embedded in an information signal such as a sigma-delta modulated audio signal. The encoded signal includes two or more channels, e.g. a left channel bit stream and a right channel bit stream. The same supplemental data is accommodated at corresponding predetermined bit positions, e.g. every Mth bit position, of the bit streams. This allows detection and extraction of the supplemental data without the need for accommodating a sync pattern in the signal. At the receiving end, a sequence of Mth bits from the first channel is compared with a corresponding sequence of Mth bits from the second channel. If they are identical, the sequence is a candidate supplemental data sequence. This is done for different sequence positions until the supplemental data has been found.
