Abstract: An alert system for a vehicle is provided for alerting an occupant of the vehicle that a pedestrian or bicyclist is approaching the vehicle and may collide with a vehicle door if the door is opened. The alert system includes a mobile communication device carried by a pedestrian or bicyclist and operable to communicate information regarding location and motion of the mobile communication device. A receiver is at the vehicle and receives a communication from the mobile communication device. A processor processes information communicated in the communication. The processor, responsive to processing communicated information, determines whether or not the location and motion of the mobile communication device relative to the vehicle is indicative of a hazardous condition. The alert system, responsive to the processor determining that there is a potential hazardous condition, generates an alert to the occupant of the vehicle.
Abstract: A computing system receives blackbody radiation data from a thermal radiation sensor that is located in a room with a heat source and is directed at the heat source. An operating state of the heat source is determined using the blackbody radiation data. Occupancy data is received for a dwelling that includes the room with the heat source; using this data, an occupancy of the dwelling is determined, including an occupancy for the room. It is determined, using the operating state of the heat source and the occupancy of the dwelling, including the occupancy of the room, whether a heat-source alert condition that includes a first threshold time is met. If so, a heat-source alert is provided. A request of a first type is then received to cancel the heat-source alert. In response, the heat-source alert is canceled and the heat-source alert condition is modified.
Abstract: A receiver comprises a sequence estimation circuit and a soft-input-soft-output (SISO) decoder. The sequence estimation circuit comprises circuitry operable to generate first soft bit decisions for symbols of a received inter-symbol-correlated signal. The SISO decoder comprises circuitry operable to decode the first soft bit decisions to generate corrected soft bit decisions. The circuitry of the sequence estimation circuit is operable to generate, based on the corrected soft bit decisions, second soft bit decisions for the symbols of the received inter-symbol-correlated signal, which are improved/refined relative to the first soft bit decisions.

Abstract: Methods for WiFi beamforming, feedback, and sounding (WiBEAM) are described. Codebook based beamforming feedback signaling and sounding mechanisms for use in wireless communications are disclosed. The methods described herein improve the feedback efficiency by using Givens rotation based decompositions and quantizing the resulting angles of the Givens rotation based decompositions using a range from a subset of [0, 2?]. Feedback may also be divided into multiple components to improve feedback efficiency/accuracy. Time domain beamforming reports for taking advantage of channel reciprocity while still taking into account practical radio frequency (RF) channel impairments are also described. Beamforming feedback that prioritizes the feedback bits in accordance with the significance of the bits is also disclosed.

Abstract: For generating a signal to be transmitted original information is encoded into a main channel and a side channel, wherein the side channel is more robust against channel influences than the main channel. On the receiver side, when the receive quality is above a threshold, which is necessitated to execute a successful decoding of the main channel, the main channel is reproduced. If the receive quality falls below this threshold, however, the side channel is reproduced which may have less bits than the main channel and which is a correspondingly lower quality representation of the original information than the main channel.

Abstract: There is provided a communication device including a display control unit configured to, in a case where information on a plurality of parameters is provided, use the provided information and control display of a screen for deciding values of the plurality of parameters, the plurality of parameters each indicating user's request with respect to a radio communication service and depending on each other, and an acquisition unit configured to acquire the decided values of the plurality of parameters. The acquired values of the plurality of parameters are used for changing control of the radio communication service.
Abstract: A proximity switch assembly and method for detecting activation of a proximity switch assembly and providing feedback is provided. The assembly includes a plurality of proximity switches each comprising a proximity sensor providing a sense activation field. The assembly also includes control circuitry processing a signal associated with the activation field of each proximity sensor and detecting a finger located between two proximity switches. The assembly further includes a feedback device generating a feedback when the finger is detected between the two proximity switches. In addition, the assembly may detect speed of movement of a finger interfacing with the proximity switches and vary the feedback based on the detected speed.
