  • Patent number: 4555076
Abstract: A film handling device for pulling out and forwarding a leader from a spool of film after the film has been removed from a film cartridge. The spool of film is held in a film guide having an arcuately formed rear portion shaped to receive the spool of film and a forward guide portion composed of straight sections converging towards a forwarding opening. A pair of film forwarding rollers are selectively engageable with the spool of film through cuts formed in the rear portion of the film guide. A detector positioned in the forward portion of the film guide detects the presence of the film leader. Before the presence of the film leader is detected, the film forwarding rollers rotate the spool of film in the film rewinding direction. Then, the direction of the rollers is reversed.

  • Patent number: 4555077
Abstract: A magnetic tape cartridge is disclosed, which cartridge includes a single rotatably mounted reel. The reel is mounted within the cartridge in a manner which prevents it from rotating until the cartridge is loaded into a tape transport device. Additionally, the reel is mounted within the cartridge so that it is substantially self-centering when loaded into a tape transport device. The cartridge includes a door which is normally closed, but which is automatically opened when the cartridge is inserted into the tape transport device. When the door of the cartridge is opened it provides access to the tape in the cartridge.

  • Patent number: 4553857
Abstract: A reversible vertical journal bearing with a self contained closed circuit lubrication system, directed toward ceiling fan applications, is disclosed. Lubricant pumping, from a reservoir, is accomplished by an array of throttled, high pressure, triangular pumping cavities on the journal surface. The array is completely symmetrical about the journal axis, so that unidirectional lubricant flow is produced at either direction of journal rotation. The lubricant is collected in a manifold at the top of the bearing, and it is gravity fed back into the reservoir. Optimum design parameters for a stable high load bearing capability device are indicated.

  • Patent number: 4553709
Abstract: The yarn (31) is fed substantially tangentially from a feed station (30) to the feed end (101) of an accumulator roller (10) of a yarn accumulator (1), drivable by a rotary drive means (120). The yarn is dischargeable from an exit end (103) of this accumulator roller (10) counter to the action of a restraining element (14) through a yarn guide means (4) arranged in prolongation of the axis (122) of the accumulator roller. The restraining element (14) is of radially outwardly open construction and is formed by a yarn restraining ring drivable relative to the accumulator roller (10). The ring includes a radially outwardly open yarn restrainer (141). The yarn guide means (4) consists of two mutually separable yarn guide components (40, 41) and is constructed as a yarn conveyor which deflects the yarn (31) out of a prescribed yarn path (32) into a yarn path intersecting the path of the revolving yarn restrainer (141).

  • Patent number: 4552322
Abstract: A light sensitive, heat developable film is stored in a cassette which includes a sliding film carrier bracket for transporting the film into and out of the cassette housing. Each cassette housing encloses a supply spool, a take-up spool, the light sensitive film, the film carrier bracket mechanism and a drive means for propelling the film carrier bracket in and out of the cassette housing. A door is slidably attached to the front of the housing to shield the film from ambient light when the cassette is not in use. When the cassette is placed into a recording machine the supply and take-up spools are engaged by motors capable of driving the spools forward or backward. At the beginning of operation an internal drive motor propels the film carrier bracket into contact with the inside of the door which releases an internal door lock. An external lead screw then withdraws the door upwardly.

  • Patent number: 4552314
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of fixing an end of a coiled wire on a take up spool and an apparatus therefor. When the wire is wound on the take up spool, an initiating end of the wire is caught by a catching pawl such as a snagger on a catching plate (snagger plate) which integrally rotates together with the take up spool and thereafter it is wound on the take up spool. Before or immediately before wire winding on the take up spool ends, a wire introduction cover advances to cover the filled take up spool. At that time, a terminating end of the wire on the filled take up spool is so led as to run along the inner surface of the wire introduction cover and come close to the catching plate. Wire drawing lever means on a wire drawing plate draws up the terminating end of the coiled wire to catch it on the catching pawl so that the initiating and terminating ends of the coiled wire intersect on the catching plate.

  • Patent number: 4552320
Abstract: Snarls are formed at winding machines and the like when the thread tension is reduced. By reducing the angle .alpha. which the thread forms with the end surface or face of the delivery bobbin or spool the friction between the thread and the bobbin edge can be increased to such an extent that no thread coils or turns can disengage from the surface of the delivery bobbin and become snarled even when the thread tension decreases. The reduction in the angle .alpha. may be achieved by lowering a thread guide eye towards the delivery bobbin, by lifting the delivery bobbin or by deflecting the thread at an extension or protection provided at the bobbin. Upon deflecting the thread at the extension a thread reserve can be provided by applying thread turns at the extension in a direction opposite to the thread turns wound on the bobbin and which thread reserve can be eliminated in a simple manner by withdrawing the same as a whole or in sections.

  • Patent number: 4550882
Abstract: A reel cutting and winding machine for longitudinally cutting a sheet into strips and for winding up the strips on winding cores into separate wound packages. Stationary mounting plates are mounted at either side of the machine, and a cross-member is pivotally mounted between the plates. The cross-member is pivotable into a winding position, a wound package sealing position, and a package depositing position. Lever means is operatively connected to the cross-member and carries the winding core. Carrier levers are pivotably mounted between said plates for movement between a waiting position during the winding process and a second, operating position for cutting the sheets transversely when a roll formation is complete. Adjusting levers are pivotably mounted on said carrier levers means and are adjustable independently of said carrier lever means.

  • Patent number: 4550883
Abstract: An apparatus which can store successive sheets of a stream of sheets between the convolutions of bands which are wound onto successive cores has a transporting unit defining for the sheets an elongated path, and a pair of feed screws which are disposed above and extend longitudinally of the path and serve to simultaneously support a core as well as a fully grown roll including a core, a band which is convoluted therearound and a supply of sheets which are confined between the convolutions of the band. The feed screws can be rotated to move the core and/or the roll thereon lengthwise of the path through a distance which at least matches the radius of a core plus the radius of a roll. • Patent number: 4550885
Abstract: In a tape transport mechanism, a payout reel is supported on a shaft whereabout is wound a helical spring inertia brake fixed at a first end and free at a second end, wound such that rotation of the payout reel in response the drawing therefrom of ribbon tends to cause the helical spring inertia brake to be wound more tightly onto the shaft. A portion of the ribbon passes onto a tension arm. A projection on the tension arm engages the second free end and unwinds the helical spring inertia brake to allow rotation of the shaft opposed by a predetermined amount of torque to maintain tension in the moving ribbon. When the moving ribbon ceases to be drawn from the payout reel, the tension arm moves back for the projection to allow the helical spring inertia brake once more to grip the shaft and bring the payout reel rapidly to a halt.
