  • Patent number: 11363306
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for processing video. An encoder implementing the systems and methods described herein may receive video data comprising a plurality of frames and may partition each frame of the plurality of frames into a plurality of coding units. The encoder may then partition a coding unit into two or more prediction units. The encoder may determine, based on one or more coding parameters, a target bit rate, and characteristics of a human visual system (HVS), a coding mode for each of the two or more prediction units to minimize distortion in the encoded bitstream. The encoder may then determine a residual signal comprising a difference between each of the two or more prediction units and each of one or more corresponding prediction areas in a previously encoded frame and then generate an encoded bitstream comprising the residual signal.

  • Patent number: 11328566
Abstract: A security system can use video analytics and/or other input parameters to identify a theft event. Optionally, the security system can take remedial action in response. For example, the security system can use video analytics to determine that a person has reached into a shelf multiple times at a rate above a threshold, which can indicate that a thief is quickly removing items from the shelf. The security system can also use video analytics to determine that a person has reached into a shelf via a sweeping action, which can indicate that a thief is gathering and removing a large quantity of items from the shelf in one motion. In response, the security system can alert security personnel, cause a speaker to output an audible message in the target area, flag portions of the video relating to the theft event, activate or ready other sensors or systems, and/or the like.

  • Patent number: 11323743
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide methods, apparatuses, and non-transitory computer-readable storage mediums for video encoding/decoding. In a method, prediction information of a current block of a coding unit tree in a coded bit stream is decoded. The prediction information indicates at least one allowed block partitioning structure for the current block. A sub-block transform (SBT) mode is determined for the current block based on the prediction information indicating that SBT is used for the current block. A partition of the current block based on the SBT mode is different from a partition of the current block based on the at least one allowed block partitioning structure. The current block is reconstructed based on the SBT mode.

  • Patent number: 11317088
Abstract: This disclosure describes gradient-based prediction refinement. A video coder (e.g., video encoder or video decoder) determines one or more prediction blocks for inter-predicting a current block (e.g., based on one or more motion vectors for the current block). In gradient-based prediction refinement, the video coder modifies one or more samples of the prediction block based on various factors such as displacement in a horizontal direction, the horizontal gradient, a displacement in the vertical direction, and a vertical gradient. This disclosure provides for gradient-based prediction refinement where a precision level of the displacement (e.g., at least one of the horizontal or vertical displacement) is unified (e.g., the same) for different prediction modes (e.g., including an affine mode and a bi-directional optical flow (BDOF) mode).

  • Patent number: 11317094
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide methods, apparatuses, and non-transitory computer-readable storage mediums for video encoding/decoding. In a method, prediction information of a current block of a current picture in a coded bitstream is decoded. The prediction information indicates a geometric partitioning mode (GPM) for the current block. The current block is partitioned into two partitions in the GPM mode. Each of the partitions is associated with a respective predictor. A weighting index for a sample of the current block is determined based on a position of the sample. A weighting factor is calculated based on the weighting index of the sample according to an equation that converts the weighting index to the weighting factor. The sample is reconstructed based on the weighting factor and the predictor corresponding to the sample.

  • Patent number: 11317114
Abstract: A padding processing section replaces, by using an input image which is a two-dimensional image in which plural fisheye images configuring a predetermined azimuth range are provided side by side, an image to be used in a prediction process outside a valid region of a fisheye image with an image at a corresponding position in a valid region of another fisheye image based on continuity of the plural fisheye images to reduce prediction errors. The padding processing section calculates the position in the valid region of the other fisheye image corresponding to the position outside the valid region based on fisheye image information indicative, for each fisheye image, of a center position, a fisheye radius, or a state of reversal or rotation of the fisheye image in the two-dimensional image. A reversible encoding section includes the fisheye image information into an encoded stream of the two-dimensional image.

  • Patent number: 11317090
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide methods and apparatuses for video encoding/decoding. In some examples, an apparatus for video decoding includes processing circuitry. The processing circuitry receives coded information of a current coding tree unit (CTU) from a coded video bitstream, and determines a context model for a split flag associated with a current block within the current CTU at least partially based on split information of a corresponding block in a reference CTU for the current CTU. Then, the processing circuitry determines the split flag based on the context model, and decodes the current block based on the split flag that is determined based on the context model.
