  • Patent number: 9661144
Abstract: A first group auditory data stream, from a transmitting subscriber device of a first group of subscriber devices or from a dispatch console and intended for the first group of subscriber devices, is received at a conference server. A second group auditory data stream from a transmitting subscriber device of a second group of subscriber devices is similarly received. The conference server determines a relative priority level of one of (i) the first group of subscriber devices relative to the second group of subscriber devices and (ii) the first group auditory data stream relative to the second group auditory data stream, and sets different relative signal gains of the first group auditory data stream and the second group auditory data stream as a function of the determined relative priority level. The two auditory data streams are then summed and forwarded towards the second group of subscriber devices.

  • Patent number: 9654952
Abstract: A mobile device determines that a communications tower is unresponsive to non-emergency wireless signals, and receives user input to select a recipient for an emergency message from a group of pre-registered recipients. The mobile device presents a group of pre-configured status indicators and receives user input to select a particular status indicator. The mobile device generates a text-based emergency message based on the selected recipient, the selected status indicator, location information for the mobile device, and a time stamp. The mobile device sends, to a message server that is different than the message recipient, the text-based emergency message. To determine a status of the message originator without requiring a connection between mobile devices, the intended recipient initiates a fetch message request to retrieve the text-based emergency message from the message server.

  • Patent number: 9654643
Abstract: A first group auditory data stream, from a transmitting subscriber device of a first group of subscriber devices or from a dispatch console and intended for the first group of subscriber devices, is received at a conference server. The conference server determines whether the first group auditory data stream generated for the first group of subscriber devices is of interest to a second group of subscriber devices, and if so, sums the first group auditory data stream with a second group auditory data stream intended for the second group of subscriber devices to form a summed group auditory data stream. The conference server then forwards the summed group auditory data stream towards the second group of subscriber devices and forwards the first group auditory data stream towards the first group of subscriber devices.

  • Patent number: 9642130
Abstract: The teachings presented herein propose a separation between the configuration of a sounding signal, and the initialization of the sounding signal. In other words, in at least one example embodiment proposed herein, a base station or other controlling entity separates the selection of sounding signal parameters (sounding signal configuration) and the signaling of that configuration information to a mobile terminal from the Ordering” or other initiation of sounding signal transmission. Thus, a mobile station may be sent sounding signal configuration information and subsequently be commanded (implicitly or explicitly) to begin sounding signal transmissions according to the previously provided configuration information.

  • Patent number: 9629187
Abstract: A method and system for dynamically selecting call setup procedure based on channel quality. While a wireless communication device (WCD) is being served by a first radio access network (RAN), a network node receives an indication of a communication quality of the at least one channel used by the first RAN to serve the given WCD. Then, the network node selects a call setup procedure for establishing a call to be served by a second RAN based on the received indication of the communication quality of the at least one channel, where the selected call setup procedure comprises the given WCD transitioning to be served with the call by the second RAN. Next, the network node signals to invoke setup of the call using the selected call setup procedure.

  • Patent number: 9622188
Abstract: System(s) and method(s) are provided for inter-cell power control in the presence of fractional frequency reuse in a wireless communication system. Transmission power control of a terminal, and ensuing inter-cell interference mitigation, is accomplished by receiving load indicators from non-serving sectors, decoding those load indicators corresponding to the non-serving sectors that operate in the same frequency bands as the terminal, and adjusting the transmission power according the states of the decoded load indicators in conjunction with the associated non-serving sectors' forward link signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio at the terminal. The states of the load indicators reflect magnitudes of interference metrics with respect to threshold values. Load indicators can also be conveyed by the non-serving sector to a base station serving the terminal through a backhaul communication, and said base station can schedule an adjusted transmission power for the terminal.

  • Patent number: 9596601
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method of modifying policy settings in an electronic device. An embodiment includes a plurality of access stations, each capable of wirelessly transmitting across a geographic region. A mobile electronic device, capable of roaming between regions is operable to establish a wireless link with the access stations. The device is owned by an office which sets communication policies determining through which access stations mobile device can place voice calls. This policy is stored on an office server as a database and periodically transmitted to the device as the device makes contact with the office server over the internet. Hence, the device maintains a copy of this policy database. When placing a voice call, the device first determines which access station is serving the region it is located in and then determines whether it is allowed to place a call through that access station using its policy database.

  • Patent number: 9591482
Abstract: A method of registering a telematics unit for telematics services is disclosed. The method comprises a mobile communication device of a subscriber contacting a mobile network operator (MNO) to register a telematics unit (TU) of a vehicle for telematics services, wherein the mobile communication device provides a vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle that the TU is associated with. The MNO looks up a phone number of the TU based on the VIN. A mobile communication network sends an electronic message to remove incoming voice call blocking of the phone number. The MNO then places a voice call to the unpublished phone number of the TU. The MNO then validates the subscriber. The MNO then engages in a voice dialog with the subscriber associated with the vehicle via the TU. The mobile communication network then sends an electronic message to reestablish voice call blocking of the TU.

  • Patent number: 9572167
Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus for assigning resources to a wireless communication device that experienced a call drop. A RAN may receive an origination request from a mobile station and make a first determination that within a predetermined amount of time prior to receiving the origination request the mobile station experienced a call drop. Responsive to making the first determination, the RAN may make a second determination that the RAN should allocate a first extent of resources to the mobile station rather than allocating a second extent of resources to the mobile station.
