  • Patent number: 6070296
Abstract: A detachable door hinge for motor vehicle doors which includes two hinge halves securable to a door and a door pillar, respectively, two hinge pin stubs fixedly secured in respective gudgeons of one of the two hinge halves and extending, in an attached position of the hinge, into complementary gudgeons of another one of the two hinge halves, with each of the two hinge halves being formed of a folded section of sheet metal and having, at least in a region of a hinge axis, a U-shaped cross-sectional profile, with respective gudgeons being formed in legs of respective hinge halves, and with the hinge further including elements for mutually locking the two hinge halves in their pivotal positions corresponding to both a closed position of the door and a partially open position of the door.

  • Patent number: 5992856
Abstract: A seal assembly suitable for static, rotary and reciprocating sealing between the shaft and the housing is provided and includes a seal ring in the shape of an annulus having a body portion with an inside flange and an outside flange extending axially therefrom and establishing a ring seal cavity therebetween. An inside annular spring is disposed in the cavity for biasing the inside flange against the shaft to provide the dynamics seal therebetween. An outside annular spring is also disposed in the cavity for biasing the outside flange against the housing to provide a static seal therebetween and prevent the rotation of the seal ring. A band is disposed in the cavity in between the inside and outside springs for enabling the inside and outside springs to independently bias the inside flange and outside flange, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5979902
Abstract: A cavity sealing article for use in a longitudinally extending cavity defined by cavity walls, the cavity having a cross-section within the cavity walls which is to be sealed at a predetermined location, comprises: (a) a driver comprising a crosslinked foamable polymer, the driver having a size, shape, and expansion ratio on foaming such that, when foamed within the cross-section of the cavity at the predetermined location, it substantially but incompletely occupies the cross-section of the cavity; and (b) a sealer comprising an uncrosslinked foamable polymer in intimate contact with the driver and surrounding the driver in the cross-section of the cavity, the sealer having a size, shape, and expansion ratio on foaming such that, when the cavity sealing article as a whole is foamed, the foamed sealer is forced into intimate and sealing contact with the cavity walls.

  • Patent number: 5975540
Abstract: A gasket of the invention is formed of a gasket member extending substantially throughout an entire area to be sealed. The gasket member includes a base metal plate and at least one sealing member disposed on at least one of surfaces of the base metal plate. A sealing section and a pressure affecting portion are formed in the sealing member. The sealing section has a compressibility, while the pressure affecting portion has a height and compressibility less than those of the sealing section. When the gasket is tightened, the sealing section is compressed to securely seal around a hole to be sealed. The pressure affecting portion having less compressibility is formed near bolt holes, so that the gasket can be tightened easily without gradually decreasing its tightening pressure.

  • Patent number: 5951191
Abstract: A bracket and washer combination providing secure holding and positioning of a magnetic sensor, wherein an optimal air gap is automatically set as the washer is brought into a slot of the bracket due to facial interaction therebetween. In one embodiment, the sidewalls of the slot have teeth of predetermined pitch, while the washer has smooth sidewalls. In a second embodiment, the sidewalls of the washer have teeth of a predetermined pitch angle, while the sidewalls of the slot are smooth. The member having toothed sidewalls is formed of a material harder than the member having smooth sidewalls. The washer and slot are dimensioned so that the sidewalls of the washer tightly abut the sidewalls of the slot, wherein the teeth of the toothed sidewalls inscribe corresponding grooves into the smooth sidewalls as the washer is pressed into the slot along a transverse axis.
