Abstract: A mechanism is presented for merging e-mail messages into a collated file. An e-mail message and its associated responses may be accessed and collated based on a selected pattern for responses. The set of e-mails may be collated into a single document with the responses associated with the particular message to which the response is directed. Using pattern matching operations in an iterative fashion, a response may be associated with the message that elicited the response whether the original message or a previous response. The form of association may be user selectable.

Abstract: Software is executed on a wireless device for presenting a response aggregation drawn upon a message having at least two desired recipients. The software of presenting at least two message-structure item questions via the wireless device and receives input requesting response aggregation drawn upon the message having at least two desired recipients and transmits the message to at least one of the at least two desired recipients using the wireless device.

Abstract: A system and method for programmatically changing the network location of a network component is disclosed. A network management layer programmatically interrupts a link between the network component and the network. The network management layer then changes the network to which the network component is linked. The link between the network component and the changed network is programmatically established or reestablished.

Abstract: Transmission of messages composed on one or more input devices to a single or multiple recipients by means of one or plural communication modes is facilitated. Such communication modes may include conventional or wireless telephone, facsimile transmission, pager, e-mail, postal mail or courier. An application program interface (API) mediates between remote applications requesting messaging functions and a message server that actually implements these functions. The API is capable of processing high-volume requests for message routing, status information, and various other functions on an automated basis, enabling businesses to make routine use of these functions.

Abstract: An information management system within a client/server based computer system is disclosed. The information management system manages information as to the dynamic locations and continuous changes relating to services offered within the computer system. The information management system utilizes a service point map (SPM) that monitors such changes. The SPM tracks changes relating to services, sphere, location, port, and epoch value. The SPM may be hierarchical in nature. Parallel or duplicate services may also exist within the system.

Abstract: A method for delivering information to information targets within a computing environment having multiple platforms includes extracting information from an information source, transforming the extracted information, and isolating the transformed information by wrapping the transformed information into a message envelope having a standard format. The message envelope is routed to at least one information target on the same platform where the message envelope is targeted to an information target on the same platform as the router. The message envelope is routed to a second router acting as a router broker where the message envelope is targeted to an information target on a different platform than the router. The router broker routes the message envelope to at least a third router located on the platform with an information target; the third router routing the message envelope to at least one information target on its platform.

Abstract: The invention relates to a mobile guide communications system. A visitor at an exhibition may use the system to obtain information associated with a specific object and to display the information on a portable terminal. In an implementation, the system includes at least one portable device, a plurality of object servers and at least one central server. The portable device may include a display means, an infra-red (IR) communication unit and a wireless communication unit. Each object server may include an IR communication unit, and the central server may include a wireless communication unit.

Abstract: A method and a system is disclosed for providing access in a centralized manner to a communications medium that is suitable for allowing use of a plurality of Home Phoneline Network Association (HPNA) v2 frames. A plurality of messages are transmitted between a first enhanced station and a second enhanced station. Each transmitted message is transmitted in an enhanced frame that has timing to allow an Inter-Frame Gap (IFG). A blocking signal, such as a sine wave signal and a cosine wave signal, is transmitted during at least one IFG between enhanced frames to mask the presence of the IFG to a non-enhanced STA. Alternatively, the blocking signal can be transmitted during at least one reply message. Contention-free access to the communications medium is also provided by transmitting messages in a highest priority level available in an HPNA v2 frame.

At least one interconnection point is selected among interconnection points in the network including one or more points between the user and the server, between the server and a data distributor connected to the user and the agent, and between the agent and the server for recording the exchanged data. Recording resources are dedicated to the selected interconnection point for recording the exchanged data based on an objective for recording the data.

Abstract: A method and mechanism for servicing a request for a web page from a user over a worldwide computer network using a portal management system. A user transmits a request for a web page with one or more portlets to a portal web server. The portal web server communicates with one or more web providers to obtain content for any portlets on the web page. Each web provider may communicate with one or more content retrievers, or access pre-rendered web pages generated by a performance engine, to retrieve content necessary to render the web page. Each content retriever may communicate with a content provider to obtain content. The portal web server assembles the requested web page using stored information and the appearance and operation of the web page and content supplied by the web provider.

Abstract: An apparatus, system and method for maintaining Web page state information using a directory server. A directory server stores information for each Web page visited by a user that requires user input. When the Web page is again visited by the user, the information is retrieved from the directory server and inserted into the Web page in appropriate fields based on tags in the Web page document. Thus, the user need not repeatedly re-enter information already entered into the Web page. However, if the user wants to enter new values, the new values will replace the existing ones stored in the directory server.

Abstract: A method and system for generating programming code and/or configuration data for programmable controller and the networks on which they operate is disclosed. In one embodiment, programming code is generated on a centralized server having a web-enabled engineering tool. The engineering tool operates on client devices that are in communication with the server over a network, such as the Internet. Preferably, the engineering tool runs in a browser application (or other network-interfacing-application) on the client device and a user generates the programming code on the server with the aid of the client device. By centralizing the engineering tool, which may contain a configuration editor and a configuration management tool having version management functionality, a new business paradigm for providing engineering tool services to customers having programmable controllers. In addition, new methods and tools for collaborative engineering of programming code are enabled.

Abstract: A method and system for restoring basic functionality to a portable computer system via a server accessed remotely by telephone. A user of a portable computer system which has lost data and software which was held in volatile memory may connect to a server to restore basic functionality to the portable computer system. The server may be an enterprise or a web-based server. The connection may be made, for instance, over a 1-800 or a 1-900 telephone line. The server transfers sufficient software to the RAM of the portable computer for it to regain basic functionality. For example, synchronization software may be transferred to the portable computer. The portable computer may then use the synchronization software to synchronize via the server or host connection more fully in order to restore lost data or lost software applications that were stored on a server or on a host computer system.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a storage system (400) may include a gateway service (402), metadata service (404) and storage service (406) that each provide different storage system functions. Each service (402, 404 and 406) may include a plurality of servers that are functionally de-coupled from one another. De-coupled servers may service requests without regard to the operation of other servers of the same service. Such a de-coupled arrangement can allow a storage system (400) to be scaled to meet increasing demands, as servers may be added to a system, on a service by service basis, without necessarily re-indexing stored information or reconfiguring multiple instances of a server application. Further, backup servers may be easily added to the system to enable fault tolerance. Servers of a particular service (402, 404 and 406) may be accessed according to a quality of service policy.
