Patent number: 6135736Abstract: A scroll machine has a first scroll member and a second scroll member. The end plates of at least one of the scroll members is only machined in the area which interfaces with the wrap tip of the opposing scroll member. A clearance gap is maintained everywhere else in order to ensure sealing occurs.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1997Date of Patent: October 24, 2000Assignee: Copeland CorporationInventors: Richard S. Patent number: 6095776Abstract: A fluid handling pump for precise metering applications includes a flexible impeller mounted on a shaft that is eccentric to the centerline of a cylindrical chamber of the pump's housing. The impeller includes a plurality of flexible walls, that cooperate with an integrally molded hub and a rim like spokes, to define a plurality of compressible chambers. During rotation of the impeller, the volume of the compressible impeller chambers varies from a maximum in passing the pump's suction port to a minimum when sweeping past the pump's discharge port. In this way, a peristaltic pumping action takes place.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1997Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: Hypro CorporationInventor: Bruce A. Maki

Patent number: 6095762Abstract: An inflator mechanism has a valve adapted to secure with the device to be inflated. A compressor is fluidly coupled with the valve mechanism. The compressor mechanism generates fluid to inflate the device. The compressor mechanism includes a motor to drive a piston, a piston, a piston cylinder, an outlet coupled between the piston cylinder and the valve, and a housing. A biasing spring is positioned in the housing to exert a force on the cylinder. The biasing force maintains the cylinder in a first position when the fluid in the cylinder is at a low pressure. The cylinder moves in the housing against the force of the biasing spring to a second position when the fluid in the cylinder is at a high pressure. A displacement control valve is associated with the cylinder to control the fluid displacement of the compressor. Thus, at low pressure, fluid displacement is high and as pressure in the cylinder increases, the fluid displacement is reduced. A power source is coupled to drive the motor of the compressor.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1997Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventor: Thomas J. Wheeler

Patent number: 6030180Abstract: An apparatus for generating water currents in a swimming pool is provided in which an intake chamber, a discharge channel and a pump impeller are contained within a common housing. The discharge channel is defined within an open-ended discharge tube which extends longitudinally within the cylindrical housing. In use, the pump operates to suck water into the intake chamber around the tube through the front end of the housing. The water flows around the rear end of the discharge tube into the discharge chamber where it is expelled forcibly into the swimming pool through the discharge outlet at the open front end of the discharge tube. A pump stator member with radially extending guide vanes is provided in the discharge tube in front of the impeller to reduce swirling in the discharge channel. A safety guard may be provided over the inlet and the outlet at the front end of the housing.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1997Date of Patent: February 29, 2000Inventors: Michael Clarey, Robert Joseph Lettini

Patent number: 6012910Abstract: An oscillating pump (10) includes a housing (11) which carries the components thereof. These components include an electromagnetic coil (24) surrounding an armature (23) carried by an impeller (12) which is positioned longitudinally between an inlet area (16) and an outlet area (17) of the pump (10). The armature (23) moves longitudinally upon activation of the coil (24). The impeller (12) includes a pair of bellows (19, 20) and carries a valve (13). The bellows (19, 20) define an inlet chamber (21) and a discharge chamber (22). Another valve (15) is carried by the housing adjacent to the discharge chamber (22). A cup (25) is formed at the inlet end of the impeller (12) and includes a lip (26) defining shoulders (28, 29). The housing (11) is also provided with areas defining shoulders (32, 33). A spring (34) is floatably positioned between the shoulders (28, 33) and another spring (35) is floatingly positioned between the shoulders (29, 32).Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1997Date of Patent: January 11, 2000Assignee: The Gorman-Rupp CompanyInventor: Michael H. McNaull

Patent number: 6007313Abstract: A barrel pump has a main pump pipe set comprising an outer housing jacket and a supporting pipe received therein for a rotor shaft. Either a carrier part with an individual sliding ring seal or a carrier part which corresponds in its outer dimensions to the carrier part and has a leakage channel for ascending liquid can be screwed onto the lower end of this main pump pipe set. The rotor shaft projects beyond this main pipe pump set. It is also possible for a carrier part with a leakage channel and a double sliding ring seal arranged in the region of the leakage channel to be screwed on. Due to their identical outer dimensions, the carrier parts are interchangeable. A pump base which encloses the pump rotor and is fastened to the lower end of the rotor shaft can be attached to the lower end of each carrier part.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1997Date of Patent: December 28, 1999Assignee: Lutz Pumpen GmbH & Co., KGInventors: Thomas Sigel, Volker Fertig
