  • Patent number: 4470436
Abstract: A coil forming apparatus of the type in which a coil (16) formed by winding a wire (1) around a winding frame (6, 7) having a plurality of winding steps (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d, 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d) of successively increased diameters is dropped into a coil receiving jig (3) disposed below the winding frame (6, 7) characterized in that pusher plates (21) adapted to vertically slide in slits formed in the winding frame (6, 7) to downwardly push the coil (16) formed on the winding steps are in stepped form corresponding to the contour of the winding of the winding frame and projecting a predetermined amount radially outwardly of the contour of each winding step and the vertical slide stroke is substantially equal to the height of each winding step, thus making it possible to reduce the overall height of the apparatus, shorten the coil forming time and facilitate the wire treatment between oils and at the terminal ends of coils.

  • Patent number: 4468015
Abstract: The invention provides a wire tensioning member for providing spring tension in a fence wire. There is provided a spring steel member of a resiliently deformable compound curvature, with the wire being attachable to one end, and the other end being provided with an engaging portion or shaft engageable in a recess provided on a fence post or other fixed ground anchor. The particular application is to provide resilience in light gauge (i.e. between 12-22 gauge) high tensile wire used in electric fencing systems. The resilience of the wire tensioning member also enables it to be used as a conventional gate handle, and furthermore enables the fence to be tensioned to provide overhead or pinned gates in any desired part of the fence for animals or vehicles to pass therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4464924
Abstract: A swaging machine comprises eccentric-driven swaging rams which are adjustable as regards their stroke position. Each swaging ram comprises a slide track for a transverse guidance of a slide block as in a Scotch yoke. The slide block is rotatably mounted on an associated eccentric. A bearing bushing having an eccentric bearing for mounting the eccentric is rotatably mounted in each of these slide blocks. To permit a simple adjustment of the stroke position of all swaging rams in synchronism even while the machine is in operation, each bearing bushing is provided with a radial adjusting arm and cooperates with an adjusting drive, which is fixedly mounted on the machine. Each adjusting drive comprises an output member, which is transversely adjustable relative to the bearing bushing. Each output member receives a guiding member, which is rotatable on an axis that is parallel to the axis of the associated bearing.

  • Patent number: 4459733
Abstract: Helixes are assembled into face structures by providing an initial helix which is stretched and retained on a work table, and a first helix which is attached to the initial helix, inserting into the first helix of a prestretched second helix by means of a joining tool and from a discharge conduit so that the second helix exits from the discharge conduit at an acute angle with respect to the first helix and moved along the latter connecting the second helix with the first helix by inserting an insert wire into the overlapping areas between the head arches of the first and second helixes, and displacing the thus finished face structure by a predetermined distance between insert wires in a timed sequence before a subsequent such inserting step for a further helix to be inserted into the second helix.

  • Patent number: 4460024
Abstract: Apparatus for making loops in a metallic wire and for inserting successively formed loops into the pockets of discrete metallic components has a support for a pair of bending pins which define a gap for the passage of a reciprocable deforming ram. A wire feeder supplies a length of wire into and intermittently advances the wire in a channel at one side of the bending pins so that successive increments of the wire move first past one and thereupon past the other of the pins. The ram is movable from that side of the channel which faces away from the pins and into the gap to thereby deform a portion of the wire between successive intermittent actuations of the wire feeder. The other pin is thereupon retracted into its support to allow for movement of the wire in the channel and to thus place a fresh portion of the wire into the path of the ram. A duct stores a stack of metallic components in such positions that the pocket of the lowermost component registers with the gap and can receive a freshly formed loop.

  • Patent number: 4458478
Abstract: Extensible metal assembly, for example bracelet or ring, comprising link members (1) and connecting members (2). Each link member has at its center a cavity (3) which goes right through in the longitudinal direction of the bracelet. The side walls of said cavity have each two holes (4). The connecting member is formed by a flattened tubular envelope. In this envelope there is provided a spring (6) having four S-shaped arms. The ends of those arms form studs (5) which project by pairs on either side of the tube. The tube has a width slightly smaller than that of the cavity (3). The connecting member is arranged on the side of the cavity (3), in the same plan as the rigid element, and pushed into the cavity. Upon passing, two of the studs (5) slide against the edges (8), are retracted into the opening (7) of the tube, and expand into the holes (4), fixing the members together.

  • Patent number: 4457347
Abstract: A device for winding coils for electric motors is improved by simplifying the gripping element that holds and grips the wires. The device includes a winding template, a winding nozzle, a receiver for the coils, and the gripping element. In previous devices, the gripping element is moved in three dimensions, requiring a relatively complex system to control its motion. In the present invention, the gripping element is moved in two dimensions only which simplifies its construction and control, but without sacrificing any of its functions.

  • Patent number: 4456036
Abstract: In order to allow an adjusting of the bending tools to a given diameter of the wire being bent allowing the producing of the requisite bending radius a central mandrel which forms two bending or forming, respectively, jaws is replaceable together with a shearing tool. To this end a hollow shaft is mounted at the rear of the central mandrel, which shaft is mounted to a supporting shaft by means of a screw joint. The supporting shaft is supported in turn rotationally and can be rotated by means of a motor in order to disconnect the central mandrel. By mentioned rotation the screw joint is released. A special coupling of the shearing tool to an axially movable operating shaft allows a simultaneous disconnecting of the shearing tool together with the central mandrel. A bending mandrel is mountable at locations having various radial distances from the central mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4454895
Abstract: This invention pertains to bail applying mechanism particularly for plastic containers with molded-on ears with access openings to the interior of the ear. These plastic containers are usually provided with wire bails when the container is empty. These plastic containers may have their body formed with a taper. "Shingling" of tapered containers is prevented by a guide rail disposed immediately above the transported containers. This guide rail extends through the bail applying station. A backup is also provided when and where the plastic container is provided with molded-on ears having an access opening. This bail applying mechanism may also be used with metal containers with attached sheet metal ears which may be absent apertures for the wire bail or the apertures may be mispositioned if present.

  • Patent number: 4449357
Abstract: The invention described herein concerns a forging process for the manufacture of track chain links, especially for worksite machines and vehicles; this process produces links that conform to the tolerances required by the dimensions and the surface quality of opposed attachment mounting and link contact surfaces and nut seats of finished links without it being necessary to machine these surfaces or nut seats. This process includes heating a metal billet in an electric furnace, the billet having a mass that is approximately equal to that of a finished link, preforming the billet, then flat stamping the heated billet. A combined shaping and levelling step carried out on the stamped piece forms parallel opposed sides and nut seats in predetermined spaced relationship to each other. The resulting link is controllably sized and then subjected to a heat treatment.
