  • Patent number: 9556833
Abstract: An air cleaner positioned above a cylinder head is connected to an intake port of the cylinder head through a connecting tube, a throttle device, and an insulator. An insulator attachment surface is formed in a rear-side wall of a cylinder head such that the insulator attachment surface is inclined to extend in a forward direction while extending upwardly. An insulator is formed in such an arc shape in a side view wherein a flow direction of air flowing inside the insulator is directed more in a forward direction as the air approaches the cylinder head. A throttle device having an intake passage thereof directed in a vertical direction is connected to the insulator. A connecting tube is formed to curve in such a shape that the connecting tube has its upstream end opened in a forward direction and is rounded outwardly in an obliquely rearward direction.

  • Patent number: 9551221
Abstract: An internal combustion engine may include an engine block, a cylinder defining a combustion chamber, and a piston in the cylinder. The piston may travel in a first stroke from one end to an opposite end of the cylinder, and may be sized relative to the cylinder to enable an expansion stroke portion of the first stroke while the piston travels under gas expansion pressure, and a momentum stroke portion of the first stroke for the remainder of the first stroke following the expansion stroke portion. A piston rod portion may be connected to the piston and extend from a location within the combustion chamber to an area external to the cylinder. A recess in the piston rod portion may form a passageway to continuously communicate gas flow between the combustion chamber and the area external to the cylinder when the piston is in the momentum stroke portion.

  • Patent number: 9546638
Abstract: A control device (7) of a cylinder direct injection type internal combustion engine (1) controls a fuel injection device (4) and an ignition device (5), executes injection of the fuel and ignition over multiple times, and executes a control of varying an interval between a timing of the injection of the fuel and a timing of the ignition, at the time of an ignition start in which the fuel is injected into a combustion chamber (3) in an expansion stroke with rotation of an output shaft (6) is stopped state and the fuel is ignited to start the rotation of the output shaft (6). The control device (7) varies the interval between the timing of the injection of the fuel and the timing of the ignition by adjusting a correlation of a pitch of the injection of the fuel over multiple times and a pitch of the ignition over multiple times. Therefore, the internal combustion engine (1) and the control device (7) have an effect of being able to enhance the starting property.

  • Patent number: 9546631
Abstract: A heat transfer system for use in an internal combustion engine and related methods are disclosed. The heat transfer system may be configured to absorb and transfer heat from a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. The heat transfer system may also be configured to reintroduce absorbed and/or transferred heat into the internal combustion engine via a fuel injector or another suitable device. Removal of the heat from the combustion chamber may reduce a quantity of work required or used for compression of a first combustion fluid, increase a charge density in the combustion chamber, and/or increase the compression ratio of the engine. Additionally, the heat transfer system may be designed such that it may be used to retrofit an existing internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 9534560
Abstract: A non-compression engine having two or three variable volume mechanisms, an induction-displacer (1) and a combustion-expander (2) or an induction-displacer (1) and a combustion-expander (2) and an atmospheric-cooler (3). A working volume of gas is drawn into the induction-displacer, then displaced into the combustion-expander (2) at substantially constant volume passing through the regenerator (5). The gas in the combustor-expander (2) is further heated by combustion of a fuel then expanded to extract work. The gas is then displaced through the regenerator (5) into the atmospheric-cooler (3) at substantially constant volume, or exhaust from the regenerator at constant pressure. The gas is contracted in the atmospheric-cooler doing atmospheric work. Once the gas has equilibrated with the pressure of the atmosphere it is exhaust from the atmospheric-cooler (3).
