  • Patent number: 7986598
Abstract: The invention relates to recording methods for recording information on a dual layer recordable disk, and to corresponding recording devices. In one such method and recording device the OPC-area is variably located on a layer of the disk. In a preferred embodiment the OPC-area is located relative close to the radius where the data stream switches from the first layer to the second layer. This reduced additional time required for jumping to a fixed OPC-area. Furthermore, in another such method and device the information to be recorded is equally divided over both layers of the dual layer disc. This avoids additional time required for finalization.

  • Patent number: 7974168
Abstract: A reproducing device includes a detection circuit and an integration circuit. The detection circuit detects a push-pull signal PP. The integration circuit carries out integration processing with respect to one or greater frames of the push-pull signal, and carries out binarization processing with respect to integration results thus obtained, thereby detecting sub data. In the integration circuit, the more the frames to be used for detecting sub data is, the higher the accuracy of the detected sub data is. The reproducing device further includes a control circuit for controlling the total number of the frames to be used for generating valid sub data in the integration circuit. The control circuit controls the total number of the frames in accordance with a result of an error correction made by an error correction circuit.

  • Patent number: 7969837
Abstract: The present invention is a dubbing device for dubbing data from a portable first recording medium such as a CD-DA (compact disc digital audio) to a second recording medium such as a hard disk drive (HDD), in which dubbing to the second recording medium with a large capacity is automatically carried out when reproducing data from the first recording medium. When data is reproduced from the first recording medium, database means is searched on the basis of identification information for the first recording medium and execution control of dubbing is performed in accordance with the result of search for recording history information. For example, whether or not data to be reproduced from the first recording medium has been already recorded on the second recording medium is discriminated, and dubbing is carried out if the data to be reproduced data has not been recorded on the second recording medium.

  • Patent number: 7961578
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a disk drive configured to write data to a disk being rotated by a spindle motor has a synchronous clock generator that generates a synchronous clock to use during the write operation. The synchronous clock generator inputs the rotational acceleration of the spindle motor, as feed-forward control value, to the feedback control system provided in the drive disk, thereby generating a clock that is synchronous with the rotational speed of the disk.

  • Patent number: 7961571
Abstract: A recording method, particularly suitable for use in a digital video-camera, is described according to which a digital signal (10), deriving from the encoding of an audio-video signal is temporarily stored in a buffer (11) and from there recorded in a dual layer DVD (12) in successive recording intervals (22) or packets. The start/stop of a recording interval is normally controlled according to the level (15) of filling of the buffer. The digital signal is partitioned in portions that need to be entirely recorded on one single layer, and this triggers the need for a layer jump independently from the level of filling of the buffer. In order to avoid starting a layer jump with the buffer already partly filled, and therefore having a short non-recording interval (23) when time is mostly needed for calibrations, it is proposed to adjust the resolution in the encoding of the audio-video signal so as to have the buffer close to empty when the layer jump occurs.

  • Patent number: 7948850
Abstract: An optical read/write apparatus causes a read/write light beam from illuminating means to strike only one side of an optical storage medium including stacked data storage layers each of which is readable/writeable separately from the other layers. In this case, the optical read/write apparatus operates so that data is read/written from/into a second data storage layer after fully recording a recordable area of a first data storage layer. Thus, light can be shone with uniform intensity across the substantially entire recordable area of the second data storage layer without using a complex read/write system even under such conditions that the transmittance to light of the first data storage layer in the recordable area may vary depending on whether any data is recorded in the recordable area.

  • Patent number: 7940627
Abstract: It is possible to manage an empty region in a disc partition while satisfying an inhibit matter of the ROM standard not recording a space bit map describer (SBD). The SBD is recorded upon disc initialization and additional recording into the partition is performed by using the SBD regardless of the access type in the device. When ejecting the disc, pointer information to the SBD recorded in the partition describer (PD) is hacked up in the SBD pointer information save file or save data and then the pointer information is erased. Upon disc recognition, the existence of the save file/data is confirmed and the SBD is restored.
