  • Patent number: 6561591
Abstract: An apparatus includes first and second wheel sections configured to mate in axially opposed relationship to define a rotatable wheel body. The wheel body has a peripheral outer surface extending circumferentially about an axis of rotation and a bearing cavity centered on the axis. Each of the wheel sections has an axial projection and an axial recess configured to receive the projection on the other of the wheel sections. This limits rotation of the wheel sections relative to each other about the axis when the wheel sections are received in the axially opposed relationship.

  • Patent number: 6416136
Abstract: A lightweight axle assembly may include a bracket at each end thereof for receiving a mount at one of a plurality of positions thereon. The mount may include a standoff for spacing an actual wheel assembly a suitable distance from the bracket. The axle may be formed to include a beam for suitable cross section including I-beams, channels, or boxes, as well as cylindrical tubes. Wheels may be mounted to spindles rigidly attached, to driving axles contained within the axle assembly, or to kingpins secured to the mounts. The axle may be adjusted to accommodate a broad range of suitable, relative, distances between the mounting surface (top or bottom of the axle end) and the center line of a wheel assembly associated with the axle. Forged mounts may be manufactured to accomplish structural objectives. Meanwhile, areas of less stress may be fabricated from lighter materials of various unconventional configurations.

  • Patent number: 6386643
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to bicycles, and more particularly to front wheel hub assemblies for bicycles and motorcycles. Specifically, the present invention provides a novel wheel hub assembly for connecting a wheel rim to the front fork of a bicycle or motorcycle, with this same wheel hub assembly comprising an oversized single member hub-axle assembly for attachment to a fork dropout having an enlarged opening. The wheel hub assembly according to the present invention comprises an axle (or axles), a bearing assembly, a hub having flanges for connection to the wheel rim (e.g., via spokes), and a quick release clamping mechanism for securing the wheel hub assembly to the front forks of the bicycle. Additionally, the present invention provides a wheel hub assembly having an axle with an increased diameter and a dropout with an increased size at the axle/dropout interface in order to yield a more rigid interface between the wheel and fork, and provides a more stable bicycle.

  • Patent number: 6336690
Abstract: Endless rubber track laying machines are provided with a pair of track laying assemblies positioned on opposite sides of the work machine. Each track laying assembly includes an endless rubber belt entrained around a drive wheel, an idler wheel, and a plurality of supporting mid-rollers. A fluid cylinder is connected to the idler wheel for tensioning the endless rubber belts. The present recoil activated valve includes a two position poppet valve positioned between the fluid cylinder and an accumulator. With this recoil activated valve the tensioning system locks the fluid cylinder as the work machine traverses side slopes. Thus, a simple system is provided that can be solely fluid actuated or actuated by an electronic monitoring system, thereby providing a system that reduces the possibility of the endless rubber track from un-tracking.

  • Patent number: 6309027
Abstract: Removable decorative wheel covers for covering central wheel portions on wheels on various types of moving vehicles from automobiles to buses to trucks. The covers have perforated patterns of circles, rectangles, and the like, that can be punched out as needed to allow different sized wheel protrusions such as valve stems, central raised hub members, and the like to pass therethrough. The perforations can include a single closed pattern that allows a single opening to be created. Additionally, the perforations can be in a ring pattern about the outer perimeter of the disc. Still furthermore, the perforations can be in a central region of the disc. Still furthermore, the openings can be punched out to allow components on the wheel that heat up such as brakes, and the like, to be air cooled. The placement of the perforations does not overlap the areas of the design type indicia that can be placed on the external surface of the wheel cover.

  • Patent number: 6238007
Abstract: A retaining article secures ornamentation, namely wheel caps and wheel covers, to a wheel. The retaining article is a unitary structure. It is received by the ornamentation which has an inboard surface with a number of protrusions extending out therefrom. The protrusions are cylindrical in shape. The retaining article has a ring with a number of openings. The openings receive the protruding cylinders therein and are secured thereto by a number of tabs. The tabs are bent by the protruding cylinders. Legs extend out from the ring. The legs are forced over lug nuts which secure the wheel to a wheel hub. The legs engage a recess in the lug nuts creating a positive engagement with the lug nuts.

  • Patent number: 6065818
Abstract: A track belt assembly includes an elastomeric track member which forms a closed loop. The elastomeric track member is advanced in a path of movement when a work machine is advanced in the forward direction of movement. The track belt assembly further includes a number of elastomeric tread bars mounted on an outer surface of the track member. A first cross section of each of the number of tread bars which is taken in a longitudinal direction which is oriented parallel to the forward direction of movement defines a leading terminal end point, a leading edge transition point, a trailing edge transition point, and a trailing terminal end point. The distance between the track member and each point of the first cross section which is interposed between the leading terminal end point and the leading edge transition point is smaller than the distance between the track member and the leading edge transition point.
