  • Patent number: 8644382
Abstract: A prediction set determining section (13) selects a prediction set from a prediction set group including a plurality of prediction sets having different combinations of prediction modes corresponding to different prediction directions. Further, a prediction mode determining section (11) selects a prediction mode from the prediction set thus selected. An entropy encoding section (4) encodes the prediction set thus selected, the prediction mode thus selected, and residual data between an input image and a predicted image formed on the basis of the prediction set and the prediction mode. This allows an image encoding device to carry out predictions from more various angles, thereby improving prediction efficiency.

  • Patent number: 8531508
Abstract: A 3D image control apparatus is provided which prevents unevenness of luminance in an observed image on a screen caused in a 3D image viewing system including an impulse type display device and liquid crystal shutter glasses. The 3D image control apparatus includes an image processing unit configured to generate luminance signals for displaying a right eye image and a left eye image on the basis of an input image signal and output the signals to a display unit. The image processing unit performs arithmetic operation on an image signal corresponding to pixels on a predetermined number of vertical lines using correction values for increasing a luminance in accordance with the position of each vertical line so that a lack of transmittance for a rising period or falling period of shutters of liquid crystal shutter glasses is compensated for, thus generating luminance signals.

  • Patent number: 8437404
Abstract: A decoder for decoding a plurality of digital video data is described. In an embodiment, the decoder comprises a DV video decoder for decoding digital video data which is formatted according to the DV standard. The DV video decoder has a Very-Long Instruction Word (VLIW) processor and a variable length decoding unit. The VLIW processor includes a preparser unit for recovering a decoding order of the digital video data so that the variable length decoding unit can process the digital video data. The variable length decoding unit decodes a variable length coding format of the digital video data which has been preparsed by the VLIW processor. Furthermore, the VLIW processor includes a decompression unit for decompressing the digital video data which has been decoded by the variable length decoding unit. In an embodiment, the VLIW processor and the variable length decoding unit are formed on the same semiconductor device.

  • Patent number: 8428143
Abstract: An improved coding efficiency is achieved by giving the encoder the opportunity to change the field/frame-wise treatment of individual picture portions between the first precision-encoded data and the second precision-encoded data, with the second precision being higher than the first precision.

  • Patent number: 8391367
Abstract: An apparatus comprising a transform circuit, a first coder circuit, a second coder circuit, and a memory circuit. The transform circuit may be configured to generate (i) one or more first coefficients in response to a sample signal when in a first mode and (ii) the sample signal in response to the first coefficients when in a second mode. The first coder circuit may be configured to generate (i) a first bitstream signal in response to one or more second coefficients when in the first mode and (ii) the second coefficients in response to the first bitstream signal when in the second mode. The second coder circuit may be configured to generate (i) a second bitstream signal in response to one or more third coefficients when in the first mode and (ii) the third coefficients in response to the second bitstream signal when in the second mode. The memory circuit may be configured to store the first coefficients, the second coefficients, and the third coefficients.

  • Patent number: 8335264
Abstract: A stream transmitting section outputs encoded stream data. A division instructing section generates dividing point information that designates a dividing point of the encoded stream data. A parallel stream transmitting section divides stream data that is output by the stream transmitting section and side information necessary for decoding from halfway along the stream that is extracted based on the stream data into a predetermined number of parts at dividing points designated by the dividing point information, performs parallelization thereof, and transmits data obtained as a result thereof to a stream decoding section on a receiving side.

  • Patent number: 8284832
Abstract: The outer convolutional coding of the signals used to transmit mobile-handheld (M/H) service data within digital-television (DTV) signals is subjected to anti-Gray coding, either before or after its interleaving, but before its inner convolutional coding. In a receiver for such M/H-service data, portions of the trellis decoded DTV signal containing soft decisions concerning symbol-interleaved convolutionally coded M/H-service data are recoded for a Gray-code mapping of symbols to modulation levels. This is done either before or after symbol de-interleaving, but before decoding the outer convolutional coding. Soft decisions concerning extrinsic information to be fed back to the ? trellis decoder to close a turbo decoding loop are derived from soft decisions as to the M/H-service data, which derivation includes re-coding for a binary-code mapping of symbols to modulation levels. Each re-coding procedure can be performed using ROM, but preferably is performed using simple digital logic.
