  • Patent number: 5679101
Abstract: A walker apparatus includes a base, a pair of front rollers mounted rotatably on a first shaft which extends from a front left side to a front right side of the base, a pair of rear rollers mounted rotatably on a second shaft which extends from a rear left side to a rear right side of the base, endless left and right foot belts engaging respectively one of the front rollers and one of the rear rollers, and a support unit disposed between the front and rear rollers to provide a supporting surface for the foot belts. The foot belts move independently and are to be treaded respectively by the left and right feet of the user, thereby preventing the action of the user's left foot from influencing the action of his right foot and vice-versa when the walker apparatus is in use. The walker apparatus may be used with a functional supporting frame that is in the form of a baby chair, a baby stroller, an exercise walker or any other suitable form.

  • Patent number: 5676627
Abstract: A machine for strengthening the leg muscles and for testing the strength of the leg muscles. The machine includes a platform having an actuator end and a weight support end. The platform is pivotally supported by a base. Weights are placed upon the weight support end of the platform. One foot of a standing user is placed upon the actuator end of the platform so as to pivot the platform on the base by the application of pressure by the leg of the user. A pneumatic control system is attached between the base and the platform to provide an adjustable resistance to the pivotal movement of the platform, and for recording the force applied to the platform by the user. An optional stabilizer attachment may be attached to the base for griping by the user to prevent the user from being lifted during applications of extreme force. Alternatively, additional resistance to pivoting of the platform may be provided by use of an elastic cord attachment which is attached to the actuator end of platform and griped by the user.

  • Patent number: 5674164
Abstract: An exercise device for hips, thighs and buttocks is provided which has two elongated arms that pivotably linked together at their proximal ends and that are associated with a pivotable body engagable plate at each of their distal ends. An arcuate tree is medially joined across each proximal end permits a yielding compression biasing member, such as an elastomeric band, to be associated with adjacent respective tree ends for producing either lateral compression force of lateral extension force between the plates. The device makes possible a variety of new and very useful exercises for hips, thighs and buttocks.

  • Patent number: 5674166
Abstract: This isometric/isotonic exercise and physical therapy system is based on a series of elongated exercise rods made of urethane or other resilient, elastomeric resin that is both bendable and twistable. The exercise or therapy afforded by the system depends on the resilient exercise rod or rods; for a relatively limp, low-resistance rod the exercise is essentially isotonic, but with stiffer rods isometric exercise or therapy is provided. The system includes devices that mount the rod or rods on the person using the system for varied exercises of the knee, elbow, hip, wrist, back, or virtually any other portion of the user's anatomy.

  • Patent number: 5674167
Abstract: A strength training exercise apparatus includes a frame having an upright back rest, and a horizontal seat, and further includes opposing arm members pivotally mounted to the back rest. The arm members are movable through an arcuate range of motion, and include locking pins for selectively locking the arm members in desired angular positions. The apparatus still further includes a resistance assembly consisting of a fixed anchor mounted on the frame, a movable anchor which is movable relative to the fixed anchor, and a plurality of elastomeric resistance cords releasably secured between the movable anchor and the fixed anchor to provide resistance to movement of the movable anchor. A pull line is mounted on guide pulleys along the length of the arm members, and is received in association with the movable anchor whereby outward movement of the pull line with respect to the arm members causes movement of the movable anchor with respect to the fixed anchor.

  • Patent number: 5674163
Abstract: An exercise device that can be used to increase cardiovascular conditioning and weight reduction, primarily through the strengthening of the abdominal muscles. The exercise device includes a foot retaining member having a pair of foot straps. The foot retaining member and foot straps retain and hold the user's feet in contact with the foot retaining member during the exercise movement. A pair of adjustable side straps extend from the ends of the foot retaining member and are adjustably connected to a handle. Preferably, the pair of side straps and the pair of foot straps are constructed of a single piece of material. When the foot retaining member is positioned on the user's feet, the user grasps the handle and begins the exercising movement. By moving his or her legs from an upright position to a generally seated position, the user can exercise his or her abdominal muscles without exerting stress on his or her back or neck muscles.

  • Patent number: 5669864
Abstract: A lightweight exercise device offers variable resistance, including assisted resistance, for strengthening and conditioning various parts of the body. The device may be strapped to the user's back and is provided with rollers for contact with a wall, door, pad, or floor. The rollers, are mounted on rotatable axles on the rear face of the device and operate in conjunction with a tensioning system which uses durable elastic cords or bands. As the rollers are rotated in one direction, the cords or bands wind about the axles thereby progressively increasing the cord or band tension. This increased tension thereby increases the resistance to rotation of the axles and the rollers mounted thereon. As the rollers are rotated back, the cords or bands unwind and the roller resistance decreases. The cords or bands may be wound by rolling the rollers or, in one embodiment, by turning a tension preadjustment crank connected to an intermediate axle.
