Abstract: This disclosure describes systems and methods related to a cloud-enabled network-based digital video recorder. In some embodiments, a request to record an asset may be received from a client device. An asset record associated with the request may be created. A first record event for generation of a manifest file may be created. A second record event for entitlement validation of an asset may be created. A third record event for quality control for the asset may be created based at least in part on the asset record. A manifest file associated with the asset may be generated based at least in part on the asset record.

Abstract: A television message system is provided that allows users at user television equipment devices that are connected to a television distribution facility to transmit messages to each other relating to a television program or other suitable subject. The television message system permits users to participate in evaluations, contests, promotions, and surveys related to a television program while watching that television program. The television message system also permits users to compose and send a message to a television program entity. Users can send messages through the television message system to users at personal computers who are connected to the user's television distribution facility through a communications network. The television message system also allows a user to purchase a gift related to television programming for a recipient. The gift may be an electronic gift certificate for pay-per-view programming.

Abstract: A method for automatically providing an appreciation object based on a user's interest and a video apparatus using the method are provided. The method includes providing the appreciation object if it is determined that a user is less interested in a viewing object currently being provided. Therefore, it is possible to promote appreciation of the appreciation object created based on currently stored content, and to provide the user with entertainment through appreciation of the appreciation object.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of frame rate conversion where descriptive information relating to an input video signal is transmitted to the frame rate converter along with the input signal. The descriptive information is used to interpolate frames, allowing the interpolator to make pixel analysis using the descriptive information relating to the original signal. The descriptive information is derived by a compositor/scaler and is transmitted to the frame rate converter with the composited/scaled signal. There may be multiple input signals that are composited to make a final composited video output such as a picture-in-picture display. The information may be transmitted in-band with the video signal received by the frame rate converter. Alternatively, the descriptive information may be transmitted in a separate stream in a side-band manner. In another embodiment, the descriptive information may be transmitted to the frame rate converter separate from the video input source as commands or packets.

In response to a viewer requesting a video, the selector selects the campaigns corresponding to the demographic classification associated with the viewer, the content category of the requested video, the geographic location associated with the viewer, and/or the viewing time at which the requested video is viewed. The demographic classification is determined by using an identifier of the viewer's set-top-box. The selector may select the campaigns corresponding to the content categories of the requested video. The content categories are determined by using an identifier associated with the requested video.

Abstract: Systems and methods of monitoring packet delivery are disclosed. In an embodiment, a method is disclosed that includes querying multiple network devices for performance metrics corresponding to video data packets sent from a video server. The network devices may include multicast branching points between the video server and the destination. A delivery failure may be identified based on the performance metrics, and a response to the delivery failure may be initiated.
