  • Patent number: 5058507
Abstract: A carriage for a mobile storage system, including a frame having an inverted U-shaped cross section, including two downwardly depending sides extending the length of the frame. A drive shaft is journaled to the frame and rotated by a prime mover. A drive wheel affixed to the drive shaft rotates with it. A driven shaft, journaled to the frame and oriented parallel to the drive shaft, carries a driven wheel within the frame, for moving the carriage along the rails. A drive chain or belt is provided for transmitting power from the drive wheel, via the driven shaft, to the driven wheel. The driven shaft is journaled to the frame by means of flangette bearings, each bearing affixed to a respective offset mounting bracket. Each bracket is affixed to one of the frame sides, there being insufficient clearance between the driven wheel and the frame sides for the placement of the flangette bearings.

  • Patent number: 4859004
Abstract: A hydraulic braking system for an automotive vehicle having a hydraulic braking pressure generator arranged to control the communication of a pressure chamber defined therein with a power source and a reservoir in response to depression of a brake pedal. The power chamber is normally communicated with the reservoir through a drain passage when the brake pedal is not depressed. Between the pressure generator and wheel brake cylinders disposed is valve means for controlling the communication of the wheel brake cylinders with the pressure generator and the reservoir. A changeover valve is arranged to normally communicate the power chamber with the reservoir and communicate the power chamber with the power source through the drain passage blocking its communication with the reservoir in a slip condition of driven wheels. In accelerating operation the changeover valve and the valve means are operated depending on the slip condition of the driven wheels to brake the same effectively preventing the slip.

  • Patent number: 4856623
Abstract: An overspeed brake mounted on an elevator cage includes a shaft that carries a pinion engageable with a rack so that linear movement of the cage produces rotation of the shaft. A carrier rotated by the shaft has two pivotably mounted dogs thereon that move outwardly at a predetermined centrifugal force level to cause rotation of a separation ring. A spreader causes axial first separation between the first ring and a second separation ring in response to the rotation, forcing two brake surfaces together and stopping rotation of the shaft, thereby halting linear motion of the cage.

  • Patent number: 4681192
Abstract: A braked twin-wheel caster assembly consists of five components--a body, two indentical wheels, a metal wheel spindle and a locking lever. A molded brake lever, rockable between a wheel-locking position and an unlocking position in which the wheels are free to turn, has an intermediate mounting portion which pivots in a bearing recess in the moulded body. The bearing recess is disposed towards the trailing end of the body, and it is open at an outer aperture and also at an inner aperture. An outer end portion of the locking lever projects through the outer aperture to provide an operating member for external operation. An inner end portion of the locking lever projects from said inner aperture to provide a locking member for engagement with the caster wheels. The intermediate portion of the locking lever is molded so that it can be resiliently compressed sufficiently for it to be inserted into the bearing recess through the outer aperture.

  • Patent number: 4657239
Abstract: A sheet aligning device including a pair of side walls located parallel to each other and defining therebetween a space for stacking a plurality of sheets. At least one of the side walls is movable in reciprocatory movement widthwise of the sheets stacked between the side walls to force the sheets against the other side wall so as to align the sheets widthwise thereof which is perpendicular to the direction in which they are delivered. The sheet aligning device includes at least one sensor for sensing the magnitudes of displacements of the sheets widthwise thereof and producing an output for adjusting at least one of the frequency, speed and stroke of the reciprocatory movement of the at least one side wall in accordance with the magnitudes of the displacements.

  • Patent number: 4657311
Abstract: A fluid pressure control system engages the power take-off of a tractor-trailer combination vehicle equipped with air brakes while simultaneously applying the parking brakes of both the tractor and the trailer. However, when the vehicle is to be moved and the power take-off disengaged, the vehicle operator must, in addition to moving the power take-off control to the position disengaging the power take-off, must also operate the parking control valves which release the parking brakes on both the tractor and the trailer. Accordingly, the parking brakes cannot be inadvertently released by merely disengaging the power take-off control, although engagement of the power take-off control automatically sets or applies the parking brakes on both the tractor and the trailer.

  • Patent number: 4657238
Abstract: An apparatus for turning over copies supplied from a copying machine including first and second rollers arranged vertically to form a first nip portion through which copies are successively fed horizontally. A third roller is arranged beside the second roller to form a second nip portion therebetween, and a fourth roller is arranged beneath the third roller to form a third nip portion therebetween. A first sheet guide is provided which can be selectively projected into a copy feed path supplied from the first nip portion to divert the copy onto an inclined surface of a sheet guide member. An arcuate second sheet guide member is arranged between the second and third rollers in such a manner that a sheet fed from the first nip portion and diverted by the first sheet guide member into the sheet support member is fed from the second nip portion into the third nip portion.

  • Patent number: 4648590
Abstract: A transport device for paper sheets incorporates driven rollers which frictionally engage the paper sheets and are mounted on shafts arranged parallel with one another in the transport direction. Filaments extending in the transport direction are utilized to bias the paper sheets from below against the rollers. The filaments permit the paper sheets to glide or slide thereover and extend between the rollers in a lower tangential plane, said filaments being mounted elastically at one extremity thereof. A slight inclination of the shafts of the rollers causes the paper sheets to be transported while engaging a lateral guiding edge to accomplish transportation of said sheet in an accurately aligned manner.

  • Patent number: 4643490
Abstract: A hydraulic servo vehicle brake is provided with a pedal-actuated master cylinder (11) and a first brake circuit I is connected to the pressure chamber (76) subjected to the pressure exerted by the master piston (24). Between the brake pedal (16) and the master piston (24), a brake application valve (17) is arranged which, on actuation by the brake pedal (16), applies pressure medium supplied by a hydraulic pump (18) connected with a fluid reservoir (27) in a controlled manner to the master piston. A wheel slip-brake control unit is provided which, in the event of incipient slip of a vehicle wheel, automatically reduces the brake power at the relevant vehicle wheel to a value just enabling the wheel to rotate and which comprises a switching valve (21) which is also subjected to the controlled pressure and is normally closed and opens at incipient slip of the associated vehicle wheel in order to apply the controlled pressure to the pressure chamber on which the master piston acts.
