  • Patent number: 7090664
Abstract: Waste management for people with an ostomy (ostomists), and who therefore find it necessary to wear an ostomy bag, is accomplished simply through processes, systems and ostomy tools involving versatile latent tubes. Such tools include ostomy bags, filters, connectors and conveyance vessels. The tools are particularly helpful, for example, in controlling the location and disposition of ostomy wastes (and their odors) when the ostomist performs challenging routine to unusual tasks associated with ostomy care and maintenance. The tools also help to instill confidence in the users' ability to carry on normal daily business and social activities without creating embarrassment or discomfort for themselves or others.

  • Patent number: 7083569
Abstract: An ostomy cartridge for use in host device in a mammal includes a body formed at elastomeric partially of polymeric material and a stem. The stem is secured to the body and is operable to permit insertion of the body into the host device and removal of the body from the host device. The stem and the body cooperate with one another and the host device to prevent flow of liquid and solid waste through the host device to the exterior of the mammal with which the host device is associated.

  • Patent number: 7056315
Abstract: The liposuction apparatus (1) comprises in combination a tubular canula (3) having at its distal extremity (18) one or more suction orifices (24) and connected at its proximate extremity (19) to a suction source (14) in communication with these orifices, and a hand piece (2) delivering a spray of working liquid (4) under pressure. The hand piece delivers the spray of liquid under pressure using a conduit opening into an ejection orifice which, when the canula is attached to the hand piece, is located opposite an ejection orifice in the canula located at its distal extremity. A liposuction method using the apparatus is also taught. This invention is of interest to manufacturers and users of surgical equipment.

  • Patent number: 7018354
Abstract: Liposuction devices and methods and surrounding aspiration systems and methods that reduce the chances of burning and necrosis. The devices include an evacuation tube surrounding an ultrasonic probe, including the distal end thereof to define a liquefaction and/or rupture chamber. The evacuation tube has one or more openings in the distal end through which tissue such as fatty tissue may enter for rupture/liquefaction therein. Containing the ultrasonic probe within the evacuation tube avoids any possible contact with surrounding tissue other than tissue that gets drawn into the liquefaction and/or rupture chamber. The size of the liquefaction and/or rupture chamber may be variable by adjustment of the axial position of the evacuation tube relative to the ultrasonic probe, or by selection of evacuation tubes of the desired length. Various embodiments are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6994702
Abstract: A modified vacuum assisted wound closure system adapted for concurrent applications of phototherapy having a foam pad for insertion substantially into the wound site and a wound drape for sealing enclosure of the foam pad at the wound site. The foam pad includes an optical pigtail, whereby desired wavelength of light may be directed into and about the wound site. The foam pad is placed in fluid communication with a vacuum source for promotion of fluid drainage. The foam pad is made of a highly reticulated, open-cell polyurethane or polyether foam for good permeability of wound fluids while under suction and is also embedded with an optical pigtail. The optical pigtail comprises an optical fiber that has been formed to fan into a plurality of sections. The fibers of the most distal fanned sections, which are implanted in the foam pad at its base, are provided with tiny optical slots, oriented away from the foam pad and toward the wound site.

  • Patent number: 6945966
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a breast pad which avoids discomfort caused by thermal deformations and heat treatments. In considering this, the breast pad of the present invention has a maim body formed by laminating and fixing together a liquid-absorbing member 12, a waterproof member 11 disposed at an outside of the liquid-absorbing member and a surface member 13 disposed on a surface of the liquid-absorbing member opposite to a surface on which the waterproof member is disposed. The main body further includes elastic members 17, 17 each disposed on a respective side edge portion of the main body, and side edges 13a of the surface members to be disposed at a user's skin side are folded so as to embrace side edges of the liquid-absorbing member therein.

  • Patent number: 6849061
Abstract: Apparatus and method for evacuating material from a body cavity are disclosed. An elongated tubular member constructed and arranged to be inserted through an aperture in a patient's chest is provided. The tubular member is generally L-shaped and has a distal section and a proximal section. The distal section includes a plurality of openings for receiving air and liquids from within the patient's body. The proximal section receives and discharges air and liquids to a receiver. The proximal section includes an expandable cuff for positioning the tubular member in the patient's chest for preventing the plurality of openings from being obstructed in whole or in part.
