  • Patent number: 3960644
Abstract: A pipe lining apparatus for lining pipe in situ with a fiberglas reinforced plastic. The apparatus includes guide rollers for holding the apparatus centrally of the liner in the pipe as the apparatus is drawn through the pipe. Rotating sprays apply a resin and a resin hardening catalyst to the interior surface of the lining and a rubber tube following the spray heads forces the resin and catalyst into the fiberglas of the liner. Rotating rollers then apply pressure to the liner to force the liner into intimate contact with the pipe being lined. A finish coat of resin mixed with wax covered with the catalyst is then sprayed on the liner.

  • Patent number: 3960629
Abstract: A composite strand of thermosetting synthetic plastic resin reinforced with fibers of conductive or semi-conductive material is produced by a pultrusion machine and process which forms and impregnates the composite strand and pulls it through the stage of impregnation, followed by curing, and forming. At the impregnation stage liquid thermosetting resin is mixed with hardener and the fiber strand saturated with the mixture and rough formed. During the initial curing stage a cure is started by heating the fibers by use of inductive electrical wave energy and the heated fibers in turn heat the resin. Before final curing, the saturated strand is pulled through the finish die where it may be externally heated and wherein the saturated strand is given its final cross-sectional shape and external finish, and cured to completion immediately prior to final emergence at the exit end of the finish die.

  • Patent number: 3957556
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a sheet molding composite are provided. The sheet molding composite consists of two outer sheets of plastic material between which is sandwiched a moldable material or compound containing fiber-reinforced resin. The resin-containing material is maintained in a deformable, flexible state until it is placed in a mold and subjected to heat, at which time it is cured in the shape of the final molded product. The molding composite is made by depositing a layer of a pre-blended resin-containing material on the upper surface of one of the sheets of plastic material and by then depositing a layer of randomly disposed glass fibers onto this first layer. A second layer of preblended resin-containing material from the same source is also deposited on an upper surface of a second of the plastic sheets.

  • Patent number: 3957569
Abstract: A multi-ply pad, such as a disposable diaper, is cut from a series of interconnected pads by a combined severing and sealing tool having a knife blade which severs through the multi-ply links on which the pads are serially interconnected. The knife edge is immediately followed by a blunt heel which seals the multiple plies of sheet material together. Accordingly, when the separated pads are sequentially handled to be folded, the multiple plies at one end of the pad will not flare or otherwise become disoriented with respect to each other and to the pad. This greatly facilitates and simplifies handling of the pads after they are severed.

  • Patent number: 3957570
Abstract: Patches for envelope windows are cut, one per envelope, from a patch web supplied at a surface speed proportional to but lower than the speed of a travelling envelope web. The cut patches are transferred from the cut-off apparatus to the envelope web by a rotary vacuum system, at a surface speed which equals the speed of the latter web, or is accelerated to this latter speed. Steps and means are provided for insuring proper positions and motions of the cut-off patch, at points where the speed thereof changes.

  • Patent number: 3956054
Abstract: Microfilm is converted into microfiche by feeding the film through a cutter, cutting the film into one or more frames, and then mounting the frame(s) upon a transparent microfiche base. The microfilm has a pair of adhesive strips along the top and bottom edge of its bottom surface for attaching the microfilm to the base. The microfiche base is mounted on a fiche deck by means of registration pins; lights are provided below the fiche deck for informing the operator where to place the frames on the base; and a margin grid having guide bars overlies the base to aid the operator in mounting the frames in precise alignment on the base. The film cutter removes a slice from the cut frames to aid the operator to mount the frames. The microfiche is updated by mounting all "updatable" frames in the same row and pre-cut from each adjacent frame. A solenoid and its push pin are positioned beneath each updatable frame and a clearance opening for each push pin is located in the microfiche base.

  • Patent number: 3954550
Abstract: A device for applying lengths of adhesive coated tape from a supply length of tape to seal boxes driven along a path past the device. The device includes an application roller initially positioned in the path and supporting an end of the tape for contact by a box to adhere the tape to its leading surface. The application roller is mounted so that, subsequent to such contact, it will be revolved against the bias of a spring and will roll over tape being pulled from the device to press the tape against the surfaces of the box as the box is driven further along the path.

  • Patent number: 3954540
Abstract: A standard fiber composition ceiling board is provided with an outer laminate of plasticized vinyl film. The holes in the film are smaller than the holes in the fiber composition ceiling board. The product is made by laminating the vinyl film to the ceiling board, then perforating the film and the ceiling board with pin punches. The perforations in the board stay at the size at which they are formed, while the holes in the film shrink in size.
