Patent number: 4599140Abstract: The flow of gases given off by a coke mass during the production of coke in a coke oven having a coke side collector main and a pusher side collector main is controlled by measuring temperature, pressure, carbon equivalent thickness and rate of carbon formation at selected locations. Electrical signals indicative of the temperature, pressure and carbon measurements are fed to an instrument system and into a computer where the measurements are compared to target values, processed and the resultant information used to control the flow of gases by regulating the gooseneck damper, standpipe control valve and/or the control valves which control collector main pressures.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1984Date of Patent: July 8, 1986Assignee: Bethlehem Steel CorporationInventor: Edmund G. Bauer

Patent number: 4563247Abstract: An apparatus for the destructive distillation of hydrocarbonaceous solids in a retort, wherein a viscous bridging zone comprising viscous liquids in intimate contact with solids, which tends to impede the flow of vaporized hydrocarbons and the flow of solid particles, is agitated by reciprocating mechanical means actuated by a rotatable crankshaft.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1984Date of Patent: January 7, 1986Assignee: Phillips Petroleum CompanyInventor: Richard D. Kuerston

Patent number: 4557805Abstract: At a coke oven of a coking plant, each operating machine is provided with a U-shaped detector unit equipped with infrared light gates. Each operating station of the coke oven is provided with a signal plate carrying positioning marker elements for fine tuning the positioning of the operating machine at the operating station and with identification marker elements for identifying the respective operating stations. Each infrared light gate includes an infrared light source and an infrared light sensor connected to an electronic evaluation circuit comprising a memory with a reading monitor for detecting and correlating the coded identification markers on the signal plates.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1985Date of Patent: December 10, 1985Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventor: Manfred Gfrerer

Patent number: 4557903Abstract: A tissue specimen processing capsule is provided which includes a pair of interlocking frames each having a porous web spread across its central openings for holding specimen in a region defined between the webs. The porous webs permit access to the specimen by processing and impregnating liquids. After the tissue specimen is processed, it is removed from the capsule and placed in a mold depression, and the empty capsule is placed over the depression. Molten casting material is poured into the mold to fill the depression and to cover the porous material. The molten casting material solidifies to form a tissue block with the capsule serving as a clampable base for an outwardly extending, tissue-containing portion. The capsule may be formed in a single operation in an injection molding process using a press that includes a pair of mold blocks that together define frame-forming cavities and between which is sandwiched a segment of an elongated web of porous material.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1983Date of Patent: December 10, 1985Assignee: Pelam, Inc.Inventor: James B. Patent number: 4556459Abstract: A sealing arrangement at coke oven chambers, for gastightly sealing the junction gaps between a transfer means, such as provided on coke guide cars or at the pushing machine and the coke oven, comprises sealing sheets at the oven side, which in operating position, apply against the outside of the chamber opening. The inner space of this transfer means is connected to stationary exhausters, for example. The sealing sheets comprise a plurality of individual segments which, as the transfer means is put in place, are pressed by adjustable springs acting through sliding rods against anchor posts and, at the top of the chamber opening against plates connected between the anchor posts at the top of the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1984Date of Patent: December 3, 1985Assignee: Firma Carl Still GmbH & Co. KGInventors: Engelbert Bruns, August Lucas

Patent number: 4552621Abstract: An apparatus comprises a reaction chamber provided with a charging hole, a branch pipe for discharging a suspension, and a branch pipe for withdrawing a vapor-gas phase which branch pipe is communicated with a condenser. The apparatus further includes a heater provided with a heat-exchanger for preheating a solvent, said heat-exchanger being introduced into said heater and communicated with said reaction chamber through nozzles adapted for jet feeding of the solvent into the reaction mass.At the outlet of the reaction chamber there is mounted a distillation column communicated with the branch pipe for discharging the suspension and provided in the upper portion thereof with a branch pipe for withdrawal of the vapor-gas phase, while in the lower portion thereof there is provided a branch pipe for discharging a distillation residue.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1983Date of Patent: November 12, 1985Assignee: Belorussky Politekhnichesky InstitutInventors: Genrikh D. Patent number: 4514353Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for forming a multi-compartmented tray from a sheet material without tearing or bowing. At least a portion of one compartment, and preferably the entire compartment, is formed in advance of other compartments. The apparatus for doing so comprises a preformer on the male die for forming the first compartment before the rest of the male die engages the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1983Date of Patent: April 30, 1985Assignee: International Paper CompanyInventors: Garold W.
