  • Patent number: 5791057
Abstract: The chain of an electromotive chain saw is quickly stopped by the combined use of an electric brake and a mechanical brake when a trigger member is turned off. The rear end of a brake band disposed to tighten a brake drum by operating a hand guard is secured to a bent rod. When the trigger member is released, the brake band is normally tightened around the outer periphery of a brake drum by the urging force of a coil spring. When the trigger member is released, a circuit provided with a brake winding is closed, thereby applying a dynamic braking force. When the dynamic brake force is applied, a centrifugal clutch is released quickly and the speed of stopping the brake drum is accelerated.

  • Patent number: 5295332
Abstract: An extruded plastic strip contains abrasive grains or minerals embedded homogeneously therein throughout is scored along the machine or extrusion axis direction, such scoring including elliptical or pointed perforations with the long axis or generally pointed ends aligned with the scoring and parallel to the machine or extrusion axis. The preferred plastic material is a 612 nylon, although other plastics may be employed. The material is heat workable, yet relatively stiff and can be used to form a wide variety of power driven abrasive tools such as shown in applicant's prior application Ser. No. 07/471,385 filed Jan. 29, 1990 entitled "Abrasive Tool and Method of Making", now U.S. Pat. No. 5,155,945. The present application also discloses a rotary wheel type tool utilizing the perforated strip, and a method of making that tool using a gel type cyanoacrylate as an adhesive. With the strip of the present invention, rotary wheel tools as well as many other tools can economically be produced.

  • Patent number: 5279077
Abstract: In a method for forming a semiconductor wafer with an orientation flat along a cleavage plane, a groove or hole is formed in the substrate on a line along which the substrate is cleaved to form an orientation flat and the substrate is treated to produce a mirrorlike surface. Then, the substrate having the mirrorlike surface is cleaved from the groove or hole to form the orientation flat. Accordingly, edges of the cleavage plane are not rounded due to the surface treatment. In addition, the substrate is easily cleaved along the cleavage plane from the groove or the hole. As a result, a semiconductor wafer having a sharp cleavage plane as an orientation flat is produced with improved yield, and alignment is performed with high precision in a subsequent process, such as photolithography.

  • Patent number: 5003728
Abstract: The machine for abrasive treatment comprises an abrasive tool (1) and a device for establishing the holding-down force within the machining zone, said device having a housing (3) provided with guideways, wherein poppet sleeves (4) carrying spindles (5) are free to reciprocate so as to translate the holding-down force to the abrasive tool (1), and a feed mechanism (14) located on the housing (3). According to the invention, in the device for establishing the holding-down force the poppet sleeves (4) are interlinked through an elastic member which is regidly coupled to the feed mechanism (14), while the latter mechanism is adapted to damp the travel of the elastic member in the forward and reverse directions of feed.

  • Patent number: 4977709
Abstract: An abrasive wheel for grinding the cutting pins of a button-type drilling bit in a grinding machine of the kind provided with a rotatable holder for fixating the pins of the bit in a grinding position and for rotating thus fixated pins. The machine also includes a spindle on which the abrasive wheel can be mounted in a given position. The spindle/holder is linearly movable in a plane which extends through and is contained by the respective rotational axes of the holder and the spindle and in a direction parallel with the rotational axis of the spindle. The abrasive wheel includes circular flange parts which embrace a profiled groove therebetween. To enable cutting pins to be ground to an obtuse tip-profiled shape with the aid of such an abrasive wheel, the profiled groove, when seen in cross-section, is formed symmetrically around a line which intersects the rotational axis of the abrasive wheel at an angle whose complementary angle is equal to the angle of inclination of the spindle.

  • Patent number: 4951423
Abstract: A finishing article comprising a backing member defining a central opening and having two opposed surfaces each carrying an abrasive material thereon; an intermediate member, having a central bore therethrough, being positioned in the opening and attached to the backing member, the central bore is capable of being at least partially threaded for supporting the finishing article to a support member. The partially threaded bore of the finishing article is detachably connectable to a threaded portion of a support member to provide rotational movement from the support member to the finishing article for finishing an object wherein the partially threaded portion of the central bore lies substantially in the plane of the backing member so that both abrasive surfaces of the finishing article can be used for abrasive sanding and, if desired, the abrasive surfaces of the article can carry different grades of abrasives.

  • Patent number: 4891914
Abstract: A grinding machine for grinding epitrochoidal, hypotrochoidal, and circular bearing races in one set-up without having to move the part and to insure near perfect concentricity between all of the bearing races.A machine blank is mounted on an upper rotary table that is in turn mounted on a lower rotary table. The upper table is driven both by the lower table and by an independent servomotor. The net speed of the upper table is the difference between the two driving speeds of the tables. The axis of rotation of the upper table is capable of being offset from the axis of rotation of the lower table. The two tables are rotated in opposite directions while a grinding wheel is moved laterally into contact with the surface of a rough-machined part to form thr trochoidal surface. The characteristics are determined by the amount of the offset, the diameter of any rollers that are to be positioned between the trochoidal surfaces in the speed change device, and the relative speeds of the two tables.
