  • Patent number: 6201965
Abstract: A system and method for facilitating a telecommunication subscriber connection using a domain name system is disclosed. The system, which is part of a DNS server, supports connection to a mobile terminal through a data network and includes multiple connections to external devices or systems, although one or more of the connections may be serviced by a single link. The connections link the system to the data network, to a home location register (“HLR”) associated with the terminal and to a mobile switch associated with the terminal. Upon initiation of a query to the DNS server through the PDN, the DNS server signals the HLR for the identification of the switch that is associated with the mobile terminal. The HLR returns an identifier for the switch and the DNS server then requests the switch to provide an address for the mobile terminal. The switch establishes a connection with the mobile terminal and provides a temporary address through a network interface system such as an interworking function.

  • Patent number: 6167121
Abstract: A modem apparatus performs modulation and demodulation between a telephone circuit and a terminal apparatus. The modem apparatus includes a modem circuit, and a codec circuit performing conversion between an analog signal and a digital signal. Capacitors are provided between the modem circuit and the codec circuit, a signal supplied from the terminal apparatus and a signal supplied from the codec circuit being supplied to the modem circuit, and a signal supplied from the telephone circuit and a signal supplied from the modem circuit being supplied to the codec circuit.

  • Patent number: 6028917
Abstract: The present invention affords a predefined class of authorized users of the PSTN (public switched telephone network) access to extended telephone services through public communication networks external to the PSTN, the latter networks including the web and Internet. Authorized users in the predefined class can receive the extended services at residences, offices, and locations remote from both residences and offices. Authorized users can activate respective extended services through the external networks, and can do so without having to communicate with telephone company representatives. Resource management intelligence of the PSTN is adapted to link to the external networks for communicating with and delivering extended telephone services to the authorized users. Extended telephone services include variations of presently standard telephone services such as call waiting, caller ID, call forwarding facsimile image transmittal, voice mail, etc.

  • Patent number: 5907598
Abstract: The disclosure allows for creation of special web-page repositories within subsystems of the present PSTN (public switched telephone network) that conform to present architectures for advanced intelligent network (AIN) constructs in telephony. Such repositories would be formed to receive facsimile (fax) telephone transmissions, convert them to HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) web page format, store the converted results and render the latter available for viewing simultaneously--under control of PSTN call management intelligence--to multiple users of the Internet and World Wide Web subject to authorization of would be viewers by the sending party.
