Abstract: A pharmaceutical formulation which is adapted particularly for transdermal administration, and which comprises an aqueous emulsion or dispersion including, in addition to the aqueous phase, at least ingredients (a) and (b) of ingredients (a), (b) and (c): (a) as active ingredient, at least one therapeutically active protein or polypeptide; (b) at least one pharmaceutically acceptable emulsifier; (c) an oil phase comprising or consisting essentially of at least one ester of an aliphatic hydroxy compound containing 1-12 carbon atoms and 1-4 alcoholic hydroxy groups with an aliphatic carboxylic acid containing 8-24 carbon atoms and 1-3 carboxylic acid groups; provided that the therapeutic activity of the active ingredient in the formulation is such that the presence or the therapeutic effect of the active ingredient is detectable in the bloodstream within less than two hours after commencing transdermal administration, and further provided that when the active ingredient comprises insulin, the insulin is subject
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the decontamination of chemical warfare agents which are present on the skin or have penetrated below the surface into the skin, or materials contaminated therewith, by a micro-emulsion which contains a C.sub.8 -C.sub.14 alkane, an anionic surfactant, an aliphatic C.sub.3 -C.sub.10 alcohol, and water, and to which possibly a wetting agent and/or antifreeze components such as antifreeze agents, NaCl or CaCl.sub.2 are also added.

Abstract: There are disclosed compositions and methods for supplementing dietary intake of various metals in a warm-blooded animal. The compositions include highly water soluble metal chelidamate salts and metal arginine salts in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent. The methods include the administration of such metal chelidamate or arginine salts to prevent or alleviate conditions resulting from metal deficiency.
Abstract: A composition for the treatement of wounds comprising a topical semisolid composition capable of providing a prophylaxis against infection, wherein the semisolid composition maintains constant moisture by promoting increased water content in wounds becoming dry and reduced water content in wounds having excess exudate. The topical semisolid composition is used in conjunction with antibiotic formulations.
Abstract: Compositions comprising a first dispersion of lipid vesicles which are capable of penetrating into the deep layers of the skin and which contain at least one active agent chosen from anti-oxygenated-free-radical agents, proteins, sugars, enzymes, vitamins, nucleotides and sequences thereof, trace elements, coenzymes, unsaturated fatty acid-rich phospholipids, silicon derivatives and plant extracts, for treating these deep layers, and a second dispersion of lipid vesicles which are capable of penetrating into the surface layers of the skin and which contain at least one active agent chosen from screening agents, anti-oxygenated-free-radical agents, sugars, amino acids, vitamins, ceramides, unsaponifiable products derived from plant oils, and components of sweat, for treating these surface layers, are effective protecting, nourishing and/or firming the skin.
