  • Patent number: 11717875
Abstract: A system for controlling tubing member assembly diameter includes a control unit, a computing device, a tubing member assembly, and an elastomer member. The tubing member assembly includes an outer pipe member that defines a static diameter and an inner pipe member having an outer surface and defining a dynamic diameter that changes from a first inner pipe member value to a second inner pipe member value. The elastomer member is disposed between the outer pipe member and the inner pipe member such that an inner area of the elastomer member is disposed on the outer surface of the inner pipe member. The elastomer member expands from a first position to a second position to constrict the dynamic diameter from the first inner pipe member value to the second inner pipe member value responsive to receiving an electrical signal from the control unit.

  • Patent number: 11719076
Abstract: An apparatus for activating chambers of downhole hydraulic screens. The apparatus comprises an outer sleeve, an inner sleeve, and a flow path. The outer sleeve is coupled to one hydraulic screen on one end and another hydraulic screen on another end. The inner sleeve couples to base pipe at both ends. The flow path is an annulus defined between the outer diameter of the inner sleeve and the inner diameter of the outer sleeve. Hydraulic seals are formed at the interfaces between the inner sleeve and base pipe and the outer sleeve and hydraulic screens. In practice, the assembled apparatus and hydraulic screens are ran downhole to a production zone using production tubing and a running tool. Fluid from the surface is pumped into the production tubing, diverted therefrom, and into chambers of the hydraulic screens using the flow path to conduct fluid between the hydraulic screens.

  • Patent number: 11713637
Abstract: A method of selectively expanding a wall of a tubular includes assembling an expansion tool comprising a plurality of bi-directional boosters, arranging a predetermined number of explosive pellets a serially-arranged column between the bi-directional boosters, positioning a duel end firing explosive column tool within the tubular, and detonating the bi-directional boosters to simultaneously ignite opposing ends of the serially-arranged column to form two shock waves. The shock waves collide to create an amplified shock wave that travels radially outward to impact the tubular and expand a portion of the tubular wall radially outward, without perforating or cutting through the portion of the wall, to form a protrusion of the tubular at the portion of the wall. The protrusion extends into an annulus adjacent an outer surface of the wall of the tubular.

  • Patent number: 11686177
Abstract: The well system includes a casing and production tubing and a control unit that can receive measurements of temperature and pressure of fluid in the tubing-casing annulus (TCA). A subsurface safety valve (SSSV) connected to the tubing can switch to an open or closed state in response to a change in pressure of the fluid. An expected thermal expansion or contraction of the TCA fluid is calculated based on the received measurements, and the control unit determines, based on the expected thermal expansion or contraction and on a calculated TCA volume, a volume necessary to be added to or released from the TCA to maintain the fluid within an optimal pressure range. The control unit can also receive an indication of an emergency condition and transmit a signal to activate a release valve to release from the TCA a volume of fluid sufficient to cause the SSSV to close.

  • Patent number: 11643896
Abstract: A wellbore assembly includes a cable configured to be disposed within a wellbore. The wellbore assembly also includes a housing attached to a downhole end of the cable. The housing defines a fluid outlet at a downhole end of the housing. The housing includes an anchor and a collapsible gate. The anchor engages a wall of the wellbore under increased tension in the cable, thereby anchoring the housing to the wellbore. The collapsible gate is disposed inside the housing between an uphole end of the housing and the fluid outlet. The housing temporarily stores a treatment fluid configured to treat an obstruction in the wellbore. The collapsible gate is configured to break, with the anchor engaged, under further tension applied by the cable, inside the housing to allow the treatment fluid to flow out of the housing through the fluid outlet toward the obstruction.

  • Patent number: 11639641
Abstract: A tool for running a casing string assembly into a wellbore includes a degradable plug assembly that temporarily isolates light fluid trapped in a lower portion of the casing string from heavier fluid in the upper portion of the casing string, thereby reducing the horizontal weight of the casing string by an amount sufficient to overcome a drag force. After the casing string is landed at a final location in the wellbore, fluid is introduced to the degradable plug assembly to degrade the plug and clear the axial passageway of the casing string so that tools or other equipment can pass therethrough.
