  • Patent number: 8254000
Abstract: A method and system scan an item having at least one color feature using an in-line spectrophotometer of a printing apparatus. The scanning identifies at least one “item color” within the color feature. The item color is stored as at least one custom target color in a computer-readable storage medium of the printing apparatus. The custom target color can be stored with the print job for future reference. At least one print job is processed through a printing engine of the printing apparatus to output at least one printed sheet. During the processing of the print job, the printed sheet is scanned with the in-line spectrophotometer to identify at least one printed color on the printed sheet and the printed color is compared to the custom target color to identify any color difference. The printing characteristics of the printing apparatus are adjusted to reduce the color difference.

  • Patent number: 8228541
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention generally relate to the printing of an image. In one version, first image data representing a first background image of a first size is stored in a memory. A printing apparatus is connected via a network to a server that stores second image data representing a second background image of a second size that is greater than the first size. A condition for printing is set based on image data representing an image to be printed. Based on the set condition, the image data representing the image to be printed is synthesized with the first image data representing the background image that is stored in the memory or the second image data obtained from the server by accessing the server via the network. Printing is performed based on the synthesized image data.

  • Patent number: 8223380
Abstract: A system for delivering an electronic document is disclosed. The system has a printer for printing on a substrate user information indicative of a send instruction which is visible to a user and coded tags invisible to the user. A sensing device senses the coded tags when the sensing device is moved relative to the substrate by the user interacting with the user information. A computer system electronically captures a message composed with the sensing device via movement of the sensing device relative to a predetermined area on the substrate. The computer system determines the predetermined area on the substrate and electronically captures the message. When the sensing device senses coded tags coincident with the send instruction, the computer system transmits the message to a recipient address.

  • Patent number: 8194299
Abstract: A reading section outputs density information of a gradation pattern image of a recording member. A gradation correction characteristic generation section generates a first gradation correction characteristic f(x). At first image quality adjustment, a detection section detects densities of patch pattern images on an image carrier, and the gradation correction characteristic generation section generates a second gradation correction characteristic g(x). At normal image quality adjustment, the detection section detects densities of patch pattern images on the image carrier, and the gradation correction characteristic generation section generates a second gradation correction characteristic g?(x). A calculation section calculates a difference gradation correction characteristic g?(x) between the gradation correction characteristic g(x) and the second gradation correction characteristic g?(x).

  • Patent number: 8184316
Abstract: A secure fax transmission system can be used to assure the intended recipient of a confidential document being sent via facsimile is the only person that will have access to the document once it is sent. An application module communicates with a client user interface over a first network and communicates with a recipient fax machine over a second network. The application module receives information associated with a confidential document being sent via facsimile. Prior to sending the document, the application module determines if the recipient fax number has been previously registered as a secure fax number. The application module then sends the document to the recipient if the recipient fax number is registered a secure. If the recipient fax number is not registered as secure, the application module sends a request for registration to the recipient fax number.
