  • Patent number: 7197418
Abstract: A system and method for online configuration of a measurement device for a measurement system. The user accesses a server with a client computer over a network and specifies a desired measurement task. If the user lacks the hardware required to perform the task, hardware specifications and configuration software and/or data specific to the user's application, i.e., to perform the task, are sent to a manufacturer, who pre-configures the hardware with the configuration software and/or data to perform the task and sends the pre-configured hardware to the user. The hardware may be re-configurable hardware, such as a programmable hardware element or processor/memory based device. Configuration software and/or data for configuring the user's measurement system hardware (and/or software) to perform the desired task may also be sent to the user. The configuration software sent to the user may comprise a graphical program usable by the measurement system to perform the task.

  • Patent number: 7191096
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a monitoring system that detects anomalies in data gathered from sensors in a computer system. During operation, the monitoring system samples data from a plurality of sensors located at various sampling points throughout the computer system. Next, the monitoring system interpolates the data from the sampling points to produce a real-time digitized surface. The monitoring system then subtracts a reference digitized surface from the real-time digitized surface to produce a residual digitized surface. Finally, the monitoring system applies a multi-dimensional sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) to the residual digitized surface to detect anomalies in the residual digitized surface which indicate an impending failure of the computer system.

  • Patent number: 7191080
Abstract: A random component of jitter and a deterministic component of jitter are separated. A measured jitter distribution is obtained. A form is selected for a selected component of jitter. The selected component of jitter is either the random component of jitter or the deterministic component of jitter. A remaining component of jitter is either the random component of jitter or the deterministic component of jitter, whichever is not the selected component of jitter. The selected form for the selected component of jitter is convolved with a generalized function for the remaining component of jitter to produce a resulting equation. The resulting equation is fitted to the measured jitter distribution.

  • Patent number: 7191083
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an apparatus and method of calibrating the parameters of a Viterbi detector 138 in which each branch metric is calculated based on noise statistics that depend on the signal hypothesis corresponding to the branch. An offline algorithm for calculating the parameters of data-dependent noise predictive filters 304A-D is presented which has two phases: a noise statistics estimation or training phase, and a filter calculation phase. During the training phase, products of pairs of noise samples are accumulated in order to estimate the noise correlations. Further, the results of the training phase are used to estimate how wide (in bits) the noise correlation accumulation registers need to be. The taps [t2[k], t1[k], t0[k]] of each FIR filter are calculated based on estimates of the entries of a 3-by-3 conditional noise correlation matrix C[k] defined by Cij[k]=E(ni-3nj-3|NRZ condition k).

  • Patent number: 7184920
Abstract: Performing delay measurement between master and slave devices. The master transmits a delay measuring signal at a fixed timing relative to a synchronous pattern signal in an overhead and transmits a frame signal in which an internal delay time, associated with a frame signal generation, from a delay measurement start timing to a transmission timing of the delay measuring signal is stored in the delay measuring signal as a master offset value. The slave adds an internal delay time associated with a frame signal generation to the master offset value of the frame signal, making a slave offset value and transmits an updated delay measuring signal with the slave offset value. The master calculates a delay time by subtracting the slave offset value from a time difference between a timing at which the delay measuring signal transmitted from the slave is received and the delay measurement start timing.

  • Patent number: 7184918
Abstract: An automated system and method for conducting a usability test. The system conducts the usability test and records events that occur on the computer screen in sync with both the video and audio of the user and creates a complete chronicle of events that occur behind the scenes in the applications and the operating system. The system, depending upon the settings specified in the configuration, also captures other input streams and then saves the complete recording of the usability test, along with all the desired events and captures, in a file format. The system allows a remote viewer to observe, in real time, the recording of the usability test and to set markers at critical moments during the recording which are to be recorded. The system also allows the manager or administrator to configure the preferences, import and analyze the usability test and recording files, and prepare presentation videos of the usability test based upon the analyzed criteria.
