Abstract: Thermally stable thermosets are formed from novel linear polymer containing acetylenic units and a random distribution of organotransition metal complexes, siloxane, boron, and/or carborane-siloxane units formed by crosslinking of the linear copolymers through the acetylene units in the polymer backbone. The thermosets can be used as structural components in high temperature and oxidizing environments or as pyrolytic precursors to metal containing ceramics, ceramic films and fibers having enhanced strength and toughness with superior mechanical, optical, electrical and/or magnetic properties.

Abstract: There is disclosed a silicone rubber powder prepared from a curable silicone composition, said powder comprising a polyorganosiloxane drain having at least one silicon-bonded polyoxyalkylene group of the formula--R.sup.1 (OR.sup.2).sub.m OR.sup.3wherein R.sup.1 is an alkylene radical, R.sup.2 is an alkylene radical, R.sup.3 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl radicals and m is an integer having a value of 2 to 100. The rubber powder is preferably prepared by curing the above silicone composition to form a cured silicone rubber and then pulverizing the silicone rubber.
Abstract: In a process for post-treatment of pickled steel products by rinsing with water in continuous rinsing plants, inert gas or rare gas is blown into at least one of the rinsing sections (1,2,3 or 4) of the rinsing plant. This prevents the formation of hydrolysis stains on the surface of the steel products in case of the strip standing still. The device for carrying out the process consists of several rinsing sectors 1, 2, 3, 4, with at least one feed opening 8 for liquid medium, with at least one of the rinsing sections 1,2,3 or 4 being provided with at least one feed opening 19, 20 for blowing in gases.
Abstract: Improved two component polymerizable polyorganosiloxane compositions are described, particularly for use in making dental impressions, having improved tear strength and wettability. Improved tear strength results from inclusion of a quadri-functional polysiloxane having a vinyl content of 0.16 to 0.24 m-mole/g. Working time is maintained by including sufficient amounts of a retarder composition that delays onset of the vinyl polymerization. Wettability is improved by including a surfactant resulting in a surface contact angle with water at three minutes of less than 50.degree.. The surfactant chosen has an HLB of 8-11, such that the wetting contact angle is achieved within less than two minutes and remains wetting throughout the working time of the impression taking, substantially improving impression quality. A low viscosity impression material is provided and includes a base component and a catalyst component. Both components are siloxane-based materials.
Abstract: Novel rubber-modified rigid silicone resins a novel method of making the same are disclosed. The resins are the copolymerized reaction product of (A) an organosilicon composition selected from the group consisting (I) an organosilicone resin, (II) hydrolyzable precursors of (I), and an hydrolyzate of (II) and (B) an silicone rubber. In the method of the invention, the copolymerization step is carried out in an organic solvent, preferably utilizing a relatively weak condensation catalyst. Thereafter, the solution is devolatilized and the composition cured by heating.
