Patent number: 5562068Abstract: A compression ratio changing arrangement in an internal combustion engine. In order to change the compression ratio by utilizing, to the maximum, an eccentric amount between inner and outer peripheral surfaces of an eccentric ring interposed between a crank pin and a large end of a connecting rod in a compression ratio changing device, the eccentric ring is selectively connected to the crank pin or the large end of the connecting rod by a connecting pin with the thinnest portion or thickest portion of the connecting ring being turned toward the center of rotation of a crankshaft. The selective connection is performed when the piston is at botton dead center. When the eccentric ring has been connected to the crank pin, the stroke of the piston is increased or decreased by an amount corresponding to two times the eccentric amount of the eccentric ring without changing the position of the bottom dead center of the piston, as compared to the stroke with when the eccentric ring has been connected to the large end.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: October 8, 1996Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Mitsuru Sugimoto, Iwao Kadota, Takashi Moriya

Patent number: 5526778Abstract: An internal combustion engine having one or more modules each employing fluidly-communicating, oscillating, power cylinder and air cylinder. The power and air cylinders oscillate about separate, individually supporting sets of trunnions positioned non-linearly with respect to each other and permitting the passage of air therethrough. The air cylinder includes a pre-combustion chamber for the purpose of withholding the delivery of a portion of compressed air to the power cylinder until all spent gases have been evacuated from the power cylinder. The air in the pre-combustion chamber enhances the delivery of fuel from a fuel delivery system into the power cylinder. The power cylinder includes multiple barrels which share a common combustion chamber. Each barrel houses a reciprocating piston linked to discrete piston rods mechanically joined about a single crank throw. A separate air crank throw is linked to an air piston in the air cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1994Date of Patent: June 18, 1996Inventor: Joseph E. Springer

Patent number: 5524556Abstract: A gas fired furnace system (10) has a controller (14) controlling the supply of gas through a gas valve (12) and air for combustion by means of an induced air draft fan (28), ignition of the gas by means of ignitor (22), the delivery of heated air from a heat exchanger (20) by means of an air blower (34) in response to signals from a thermostat (42). A selected constant flow of air for combustion is provided by controlling the speed of the motor driving the induced motor fan (28) despite changes which may occur in back pressure. Induced draft fan motor parameters proportional to motor torque and motor speed are read on an ongoing basis and inputted to controller (14) which computes a desired voltage and compares that with referenced data stored in the controller memory and makes corrections to the speed of the induced draft fan motor to maintain the constant air flow.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1995Date of Patent: June 11, 1996Assignee: Texas Instruments IncorporatedInventors: Mitchell R.
