  • Patent number: 6470229
Abstract: A system and method for yield management is disclosed wherein a data set containing one or more prediction variable values and one or more response values is input into the system. The system can pre-process the input data set to remove prediction variables with missing values and data sets with missing values. The pre-processed data can then be used to generate a model that may be a decision tree. The system can accept user input to modify the generated model. Once the model is complete, one or more statistical analysis tools can be used to analyze the data and generate a list of the key yield factors for the particular data set.

  • Patent number: 6470337
Abstract: An information retrieval system for retrieving desired data from a retrieved subject database with data to be retrieved stored therein, which obtains the index corresponding to the retrieved subject data obtained by the retrieval executing unit as a retrieval result, from the index storing unit, computes expected value of acquired information based on the retrieval times of the retrieval result data stored in the retrieved subject retrieval probability storing unit, presents to a user the index information corresponding to the retrieval result in decreasing order of the expected value of the computed acquired information as for the retrieved subject data that is the retrieval result, and narrows down a retrieval result obtained by the retrieval executing unit, in reply to a user's narrowing request.

  • Patent number: 6466839
Abstract: A system of providing fast machine direction (MD) and cross direction (CD) basis weight adjustments using a simultaneous multi-point water weight sensor which provides independent MD and CD measurements is described. The water weight sensor is placed under the wire of the sheetmaking machine and provides fast wet end water weight measurements which are converted into predicted dry end basis weight information and used to control operating variables of machine elements in the sheetmaking machine to compensate for high frequency process variations. MD wet end measurements are used to control operating variables of machine elements that influence the MD dry end basis weight and CD wet end measurements are used to control operating variables of machine elements that influence CD dry end basis weight.

  • Patent number: 6466835
Abstract: In a deadlock avoidance method of the present invention, after setting two kinds of transport routes, it is determined whether each of treatment chambers located on the respective transport routes is located upstream or downstream of other treatment chambers on a transport route formed by integrating the transport routes, and an upstream/downstream table indicative of an upstream/downstream relationship between the respective treatment chambers on all the transport routes. When it is determined that a common treatment chamber corresponds to both of upstream and downstream positions while preparing the upstream/downstream table, it is determined that the wafers cause a deadlock.

  • Patent number: 6459939
Abstract: A method for determining the performance of model predictive controllers requiring only closed-loop data and an estimate of the process deadtime. A numerical measure is calculated which is a comparison of the actual variation of the process to the variation that would be expected if the process were controlled by a model predictive controller with no move suppression and no model mismatch. The measure accounts for the fact that the disturbance model employed in the Model Predictive Controller may be different from the actual process disturbance.

  • Patent number: 6460034
Abstract: A knowledge base search and retrieval system, which includes factual knowledge base queries and concept knowledge base queries, is disclosed. A knowledge base stores associations among terminology/categories that have a lexical, semantical or usage association. Document theme vectors identify the content of documents through themes as well as through classification of the documents in categories that reflects what the documents are primarily about. The factual knowledge base queries identify, in response to an input query, documents relevant to the input query through expansion of the query terms as well as through expansion of themes. The concept knowledge base query does not identify specific documents in response to a query, but specifies terminology that identifies the potential existence of documents in a particular area.

  • Patent number: 6456893
Abstract: A machine management system improves flexibility in control of an apparatus and installation of an additional apparatus. A plurality of refrigerators sends operational information to a virtual machine constructor. The virtual machine constructor constructs virtual machines corresponding to the refrigerators using the received information, and holds the virtual machines therein. Each time the virtual machine constructor receives new information from the refrigerators, it updates the virtual machines. Controllers receive and hold virtual machines from the virtual machine constructor. The controllers cause one of the virtual machines to be selected and displayed in response to a user's request.

  • Patent number: 6453316
Abstract: When a get resource message arrives from an exterior, a resource allocation part reserves a resource. In case of data reading or data writing, a declared value management part checks parameters and a slot allocation part allocates the resource, thereby constructing an efficient file system guaranteeing delay quality in relation to data reading. As the result, it is possible to provide a file system providing pictures in a quick response time for requests from users and supporting users requiring various regeneration speeds.

  • Patent number: 6449625
Abstract: A method and system for storing data in data blocks of predetermined size in an electronic memory (e.g. FLASH memory), particularly data such as updatable record of database transactions. The FLASH operates logically as two stacks where data is pushed into either end of the memory in alternating cycles. Between each push or write cycle, a garbage collection cycle is performed whereby only the most recent transaction performed on any particular record is preserved at one end of the stack, while the rest of the stack is made available for new data. When database being monitored is written to permanent memory, the entire FLASH is again made available for new data. If the database is periodically backed up to permanent memory, it can be restored to RAM by reducing the copy from the permanent memory and modifying it according to the record of database transactions in the electronic memory.

  • Patent number: 6442551
Abstract: A data network with data storage facilities for providing redundant data storage and for enabling concurrent access to the data for multiple purposes. A first data processing system with a first data facility stores a data base and processes transactions or other priority applications. A second data storage facility, that may be physically separated from the first data storage facility, mirrors the data in the first data storage facility. In a concurrent access operating mode, the second data storage facility makes the data available to an application concurrently with, but independently of, the operation of the other application. On completion of the concurrent operation, the second data storage facility can reconnect with and synchronizes with the first data storage facility thereby to reestablish the mirroring operation.

  • Patent number: 6430462
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a circuit for processing signals in an electronic graving machine, in which a series of cups arranged in a gravure screen is engraved in a printing cylinder by a burin of a graving element guided by an engraving control signal (G). In a digital signal processor (13), a transfer function is determined from function value data used to calculate a periodic screen signal for producing the gravure screen; from adjustment data for adjusting the depth of cut; from digital adjustment parameters for calibrating “light” (white) and “dark” (black); and from control data (SD). The transmission coefficients of the transmission function and/or the transmission function can be modified by the control data (SD).

  • Patent number: 6424966
Abstract: A method and system for the processing and maintenance of electronic information retrieved from electronic documents stored on a computer network. The gatherer program of the present invention employs a crawler to crawl a portion of the computer network to retrieve electronic documents found during the crawl and that meet a set of crawl restriction rules. Some or all of the data contained in the copies of electronic documents is then stored in a data store such as an index. The invention keeps the data in the data store current by accepting notifications of when a previously retrieved document has changed. The notifications are sent by a notification source that monitors a space containing the previously retrieved documents for changes occurring after the document was last retrieved by the gatherer program.

  • Patent number: 6408313
Abstract: A dynamic cache management mechanism determines the amount of memory available from a system on which a memory intensive application is running and dynamically manages the amount of cache for which real memory is associated or committed by the system. A background thread periodically queries the operating system to determine how much memory is available for use by applications. If the amount of memory, as identified in a free list is above a predetermined threshold, the application requests more memory for its use. If below the predetermined threshold, the application gives memory back to the operating system. The threshold used by the application to expand and shrink the memory it uses based upon system demand for memory.
