Abstract: Systems and methods are described that permit a user to configure an identification strategy at run time to facilitate user input of data. The identification strategy may include a parsing grammar and a search algorithm. The parsing grammar may be used to parse user input, and the search algorithm may be used to search a database for the user input. A configuring user may configure the parsing grammar at run time to accept data in a customized form to suit the user's input style. The search algorithm may be configured accordingly as well.

Abstract: A system and method for modifying the output of a computer program without source code modification. A computer program reads in two files, an input data file and a recipe text file. The data input file contains name/value pairs to be rendered to an output device and the recipe text file contains the formatting descriptions. The name/value pairs of the data input file need not be arranged according to a required structure. During the execution of the program, the formatting descriptions of the recipe text file are converted into a sequence of executable objects and the name/value pairs from the data input file are rendered in a format according to these formatting descriptions. A coordinated alteration of the input text file and the recipe text file will result in a modification to the output format.

Abstract: A system and method for managing access rights of media files communicated over a network. In a preferred embodiment, the present invention allows a user to obtain rights to access media files of selected content, which may include a song, album, movie, etc. Once the user obtains rights to access media files of the selected content, information that identifies the user and information that describes the selected content is communicated to a plurality of content providers. By receiving information that identifies the user and information that describes the selected content, each content provider can verify independently that the user is authorized to access one or more files that contain the selected content. The user may then directly contact any one of many service providers to access media files that contain the selected content.

Abstract: To guarantee that contents of an update by a transaction in a parallel database management system. A database management system includes a replica database management unit that manages the replica database, records synchronous information at a timing at which one of the transaction generated is valid in every database management unit and other transactions are invalid in every database management unit, extracts update information and the synchronous information for creating the replica database from the update logs, and causes the replica database management unit to import the update information of each transaction that has become valid before the synchronous information was recorded.

Abstract: A server computer system generates, for data stored in a transmission source server, index information including a data identification number, a data type, information for the data such as copyright information and an address of a server whereat the data are stored, and transmits only the index information to a hand-held information terminal carried by the owner of the transmission source server, thereby, a data transfer is requested for transferring, to a transmission destination server, data indicating the index information from the hand-held information terminal to the transmission destination server in accordance with the index information held by the hand-held information terminal and an address of the transmission destination server.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products disambiguate a globally universal identifier (GUID) within a file after the file is duplicated. The method involves generating a GUID for the file, generating a location identifier that defines a unique location of the file when the GUID was generated, and storing the location identifier in association with the GUID. The method also involves opening and examining the file, determining whether the location identifier matches a current location of the file, and in response to determining that the location identifier does not match the current location, generating a new GUID and replacing the GUID with the new GUID. Additionally, the method may also involve remapping references mapped to the GUID in the file to the new GUID and resetting the location identifier to match the current location.

Abstract: Systems and techniques relating to local data repository generation facilitate analysis of business activity information. In general, in one implementation, a technique includes: receiving results of an analysis query applied against a business information warehouse, the results including at least one key performance indicator generated in response to the analysis query by an analytical engine of the business information warehouse from other information stored in underlying databases of the business information warehouse; transforming the results such that the results appear to be obtained directly from an underlying relational database source; and sending the transformed results to a software component that generates from the transformed results a local data repository, a self-describing collection of integrated records, wherein the local data repository supports dynamic analytical processing operations on the results of the analysis query.

Abstract: A continuous information gathering and evaluating system uses five highly coupled databases and software for gathering user input (respondent software), for evaluating input (evaluator software), and for administering the system (administrative software). The first database includes the categories of users for an organization. The second database stores information about each user. The third database includes all topics and issues of interest and queries for each combination of topic, issue, and respondent category. Responses to query statements are preferably collected using a 7 point Likert scale. The fourth database is the repository for the responses from users and appropriate statistics based on the responses. The fifth database includes authorization data and rules that determine how the process and system are implemented for a particular organization.

Abstract: Remastering of shared resources among nodes in a cluster, while minimizing the time that such resources are unavailable for access, comprises dividing the shared resources being remastered into multiple “windows” and freezing and remastering one window at a time. The remastering windows are defined over one or more buckets associated with a hash table of resources. In clusters with unequally sized hash tables, an enhancement to the fundamental windowing approach utilizes a functionally specific hashing algorithm and a hash table size constraint to ensure that the set of all resources that hash to a given bucket in a hash table of a given size will hash precisely to the same bucket, plus a set of higher buckets which are well defined, in a node that has a larger hash table.

Abstract: A virtual hard drive (VHD) file manager system for a virtualized logical server cloud including a master repository and a VHD file manager. The VHD interfaces virtualization software and a server cloud manager to manage VHDs for logical servers of the server cloud. The master repository stores multiple master component files associated with the stored VHDs. The master component files include at least one core file and at least one delta file. The VHD file manager enables copying of the master component files to deploy VHDs in the server cloud, manages creation and storing of new delta files and corresponding VHDs in the master repository, and generates and maintains meta information to maintain file relationship integrity.
