The medium has the unique combination of a relatively high bending fatigue strength and relatively low pressure drop. The medium may comprise a laminate of a plurality of plies. The intermediate plies of the laminate may be woven with a square weave. The medium may also be used for other types of drying.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to layered bodies consisting of at least one plastic foam and/or latex foam layer and particulate, superabsorbent polymers for the absorption of water and aqueous liquids, which bodies comprise the superabsorber on, between, or below the foamed plastic and/or latex layer in a quantitatively and/or locally predetermined and fixed areal configuration at a quantity ratio of plastic and/or latex foam to the superabsorber of 1:500 to 50:1. The plastic/latex foam may comprise fillers, pigments and/or synthetic fibers. The layered bodies have an increased absorption capacity for water and aqueous liquids; in particular under load. They are manufactured by spreading out the foam, applying the superabsorber in the predetermined quantity ratio, optionally by using a stencil, and by fixing it by means of a heat treatment.

    Abstract: A process for producing a semiconductor substrate is provided which comprises providing a first substrate made of silicon having a porous silicon layer formed thereon by making porous the substrate silicon and a nonporous monocrystalline silicon layer epitaxially grown on the porous silicon layer, laminating the first substrate onto a second substrate in a state that at least one of lamination faces of the first and the second substrates has a silicon oxide layer and the nonporous monocrystalline silicon layer is interposed between the laminated substrates, and removing the porous silicon layer by etching, wherein the porous silicon layer is removed by etching with an etchant which etches the nonporous monocrystalline silicon layer and the silicon oxide layer at respective etching rates of not more than 10 angstroms per minute.

    Abstract: A nonwoven, porous fabric produced from a water modifiable polyolefin-containing film. In a preferred embodiment, the nonwoven fabric includes groups of elongated polyolefin fibers substantially oriented along a longitudinal axis. The fibers have branches extending from themselves and are bonded therebetween. Elongated channels extend generally parallel to the longitudinal axis on the surface of the fabric and within the fabric. A substantial portion of the channels are interconnected to other channels. To produce the fabric, a polymer blend is formed with the polyethylene as the minority constituent and the dispersed phase, and with polyethylene oxide as the continuous phase. In another embodiment wherein the polyethylene is the majority constituent and the polyethylene oxide is the minority constituent, a reactive blend is prepared during processing so that the blend exhibits an inverse phase morphology, the polyethylene oxide becoming the continuous phase and the polyethylene becoming the dispersed phase.

    Abstract: A binder composition of a phenolic novolac resin and a (lower) alkoxylated triazine-formaldehyde resin curing agent is disclosed. The triazine resins have sufficient carbon atoms in the alkoxy groups so as to provide a curing agent having a water solubility of less than 15%. The binder cures at high temperatures so as to provide improved flow and prolonged workability to the composition. The compositions are useful in refractory applications having a need for high temperature curing agents such as for maintenance and repair within refractory vessels by gunning/spraying, manufacture of electrodes by the Soderberg method, and for use in blast furnace tap holes.

    Abstract: The present invention pertains, in a preferred embodiment, to a fluid-pervious web comprising a first or wearer-contacting surface and a second or garment-facing surface. The first surface of the web provides a structure which exhibits a surface energy less than the surface energy of the intermediate portion. In a preferred embodiment, the web exhibits a plurality of regions of comparatively low surface energy which define surface energy gradients where they interface with higher surface energy web surfaces. More particularly, the present invention pertains to a fluid-pervious web having a plurality of small-scale surface energy gradients which are oriented and located so as to effectively transport fluid away from the first or wearer-contacting surface.

    Abstract: Proposed is an improvement in the process for the preparation of an SOI wafer comprising the steps of: forming an oxidized surface film on the mirror-polished surface of a first mirror-polished semiconductor silicon wafer as the base wafer; forming a doped layer with a dopant in a high concentration on the mirror-polished surface of a second mirror-polished semiconductor silicon wafer as the bond wafer; bringing the base wafer and the bond wafer into contact each with the other at the oxidized surface film and the doped layer; and subjecting the thus contacted semiconductor silicon wafers to a heat treatment to effect integral bonding thereof into a precursor of an SOI wafer. The improvement of the invention is accomplished by polishing the surface of the doped layer on the bond wafer before the base wafer and the bond wafer are joined by contacting at the oxidized surface film and the doped layer so that a great improvement can be obtained in the bonding strength between layers.

Preferably, each of the fibers (12) of those penetrating the foam material (4) emerges from the outer surface (16) thereof and thereby provides a pilosity (17) thereon. The laminated product (2) is suitable for use as an insole as well as a slip-in insole in any footwear. It takes advantage of the resilient properties of the foam, the stiffness and thermoformability of the fibrous mat and the comfort provided by the pilosity covering the upper layer of foam.
