Polymers having enhanced thermal stability are obtained using a monomer comprising an allyl-containing group which is bonded to primary and/or secondary hydroxyl groups on a saccharide, as a novel stabilization crosslinking agent.

C., a low dielectric, and a low moisture content. The resultant alignment layer can also provide surface tilt angles suitable for supertwisted nematic-liquid crystal displays.
