Abstract: An ink jet printer is provided with an ink reservoir including a laminar substrate covered on the outer surface of a plurality of metal coatings forming individual electrodes associated with a plurality of nozzles. These latter are formed of holes passing through the substrate and the coatings. An additional metal coating is provided in the inner surface of the substrate and includes a portion to provide a common electrode and a plurality of portions connected with the coatings of the outer surface. The reservoir has a chamber for the evacuation of gases which form during the printing operation, the chamber having an associated Venturi pump acting as a vacuum source. The electrical energization circuit for the printer includes an adjustment member for effecting controlled variation in the energy of the pulses which cause the ejection of ink sprays through the printer nozzles.

  • Patent number: 4675694
Abstract: A high density printer includes a printing plate having an array of through holes of capillary dimension, and individual heaters located within each hole near one face of the printing plate, whereby printing is accomplished by placing the other face of the printing plate in contact with a pool of liquified phase change ink for a period of time sufficient to allow ink to fill each hole via capillary action, after which time the printing plate is removed from the ink and allowed to cool for solidifying the ink within each hole, whereafter selective ones of the heaters are energized for melting ink in associated holes, whereupon the ink expands away from the solidified ink in the portions of the holes below the heaters, causing ink to protrude from the associated holes on the one face in a desired pattern for transfer to a substrate brought into intimate contact with the one face.

  • Patent number: 4672390
Abstract: An improved carriage assembly for use in ink jet printers is provided. The present ink jet printer carriage assembly includes a holder for holding an ink droplet projection nozzle and a charging electrode for charging ink droplets and the holder is so structured that it may be pivoted vertically as well as horizontally. Thus the ink jet projection direction may be adjusted with respect to its pitch direction as well as yaw direction. A deflection stage including a pair of oppositely arranged deflector electrodes is fixedly mounted on the carriage body; however, a gutter for collecting non-deflected ink droplets is adjustably provided. With such a structure, the whole assembly may be constructed quite with ease since minor mismatches may be corrected after assemblage; moreover, printed characters or images of excellent quality may be obtained.

  • Patent number: 4654816
Abstract: The present invention concerns a process for correcting the output level of a charge-transfer device, as well as a device for operating the same. Said process comprises different steps, respectively a first step where the quantities of charges corresponding to a reference signal that are stored in N stages are read successively and the values being function of the different quantities of charges read, are stored in a memory; and a second step, where before each read-out of a charges quantity, the precharge level of the output stage is modulated in function of the value of the same rank stored in the memory.
