  • Patent number: 4873537
Abstract: An image beam recording apparatus including an image data input device, a comparator for forming a plurality of pulse width modulated signals on the basis of the image data input by the input device, and a laser for scanning a laser beam modulated in accordance with the pulse width modulated signals output by the comparator and for recording an image on a recording medium. The comparator is capable of forming a plurality of pulse width modulated signals so as to reproduce a variable density image. The plurality of pulse width modulated signals have the same number of pulses, but different pulse widths. The laser effects a scanning operation so that a plurality of beams modulated by the pulse width modulated signals form spots which overlap each other.

  • Patent number: 4873538
Abstract: A rotary action graphic recording system includes a pen carriage supporting a linear array of moveable pen shuttle assemblies each of which support recording pens together with means for moving the pen carriage in a carriage path. Rotary actuation means are supported by and operative upon the pen carriage to engage selected ones of the recording pens for movement into contact with the recording media. The rotary actuating means are operated by an elongated actuator beam supported in parallel with the carriage path and coupled to the rotary actuating means. Brake means within the rotary actuator are provided which are operative to engage the actuator beam and permit alignment of the rotary actuator with a selected pen within the pen carriage array by movement of the pen carriage. The moveable pen shuttle assemblies are slideably captivated within pen channels formed in the pen carriage and are supported by interposed bearings. Spring returns bias the pen shuttle assemblies to their nonrecording positions.

  • Patent number: 4872025
Abstract: When a data control portion receives a request for change of a pixel density, a cycle used as a reference cycle for detecting abnormality in a laser beam is changed corresponding to the pixel density. While a rotating speed of a polygon mirror for changing the density of picture element is not constant, emission of the laser beam is forbidden and detection as to abnormality in the laser beam is not effected. A mark for detection of an image density is formed on a photoreceptor where the laser beam is scanned, and outside an area where the image is to be formed. The formation of the detection mark is forbidden while the pixel density is being changed. On the other hand, when the detection mark is being formed, output of an instruction for changing the pixel density is deferred. In addition, emission of the laser beam is forbidden while the pixel density is being changed.

  • Patent number: 4870430
Abstract: A solid ink delivery system for supplying sticks of solid ink to a ink jet printer is disclosed. The solid ink delivery system includes a delivery assembly for each color ink stick supplied to the printer. Each delivery assembly includes a tube assembly where the ink sticks are stacked prior to their delivery to the printer. A triggerable ink stick feed assembly is provided for normally holding the in sticks in place. When triggered, the ink stick feed assembly releases the bottommost ink stick or sticks to an opening in the printer adapted to receive them, and restricts the movement of the above stacked ink sticks. The solid ink delivery system is adapted for use with a moving print head having a number of reservoir openings each adapted to receive ink sticks of a different color. A positioning means aligns the print head so the reservoir openings are under the tube assemblies that supply them with the appropriate color ink.

  • Patent number: 4868677
Abstract: An image recording system includes an electro-optic image section having a luminescent display device, such as a high-resolution monochrome cathode ray tube (CRT), that successively directs its light output through a red, a green, and blue filters to expose recording film contained within a camera. The recording film can take the form of positive roll film that is processed into slides or self-developing film units. The CRT is controlled to sweep a scan line at specified line positions while modulating the output light in a digital manner and repeat the line sweep until all pixel positions for that line are properly exposed. After all lines for a particular color are imaged, the filter is changed to the next color to be imaged and the process repeated until all scan lines for the different colors are completed. The system allows very precise exposure control to create developed images having fine gradation in color density and hue.

  • Patent number: 4866593
Abstract: A printing apparatus for use in a printer with a photo-sensitive drum. The printing apparatus includes a spotlight source for generating a light provides essentially a point source. A photo-optical converter which is optically coupled to the spotlight source converts the light from the spotlight source to linear rays of light. A plurality of microshutters optically coupled to the photo-optical converter selectively transmits the light at selected portions of the array to the photo-sensitive drum. As a result, a light path is defined from the spot-light source through the photo-optical converter and the microshutters to the photo-sensitive drum.

  • Patent number: 4862288
Abstract: When a data control portion 300 receives a request for changing a density of picture elements from an external data processing apparatus, a printing control portion 200 defers exposure if it is before start of exposure, until a rotating speed of a polygon mirror 34 becomes constant. If exposure is being performed, the printing control portion 200 defers change of the density of picture elements until the exposure is completed. If printing is being performed in response to a printing request received till then, the printing control portion 200 defers change of the density of the picture elements until the printing is completed. In addition, the printing control portion 200 automatically sets an initial density value of picture elements designated by a printing density initialization switch 237, when power supply is turned on.
