  • Patent number: 10736791
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses herein relate to assembling absorbent articles, and more particularly, diapers, each including a chassis connected with front and back elastic belts. Opposing end regions of the chassis are connected with regions of the elastic belts where the elasticity of the elastic belts has been removed or deactivated. An elastic laminate is formed by intermittently bonding elastic strands between a first continuous substrate layer and a second continuous substrate layer. The elastic strands are then intermittently deactivated by severing the strands in the non-bonded regions to form deactivated regions of the elastic laminate. A plurality of chassis may then be bonded with the elastic laminate, wherein the first or second end regions of each chassis may be bonded with deactivated regions of the continuous elastic laminate.

  • Patent number: 10695233
Abstract: A method of making a laminate for an absorbent article is provided. The laminate comprises elastic elements disposed at least partially intermediate two substrates. The first substrate has a primary fiber bond pattern formed therein and comprising a plurality of primary fiber bonds. The method comprises forming densified regions in the first substrate. A perimeter of each of the densified regions is larger than a perimeter of each of the primary fiber bonds. The densified regions together form a pattern of densified regions in the first substrate. The method comprises adhesively attaching the elastic elements to the first substrate, joining the second substrate to the first substrate or to some of the elastic elements, and forming a plurality of rugosities in the first substrate by allowing the elastic elements to at least partially contract. The frequency and amplitude ranges of the rugosities result from the pattern of the densified regions.

  • Patent number: 10518516
Abstract: A method and associated system for forming composite materials is presented, including providing a composite charge having applied release films to top and bottom surfaces and positioned on a contoured forming tool such that a portion of the composite charge over hangs a second upper surface of forming tool. A fairing bar abuts the forming tool that has an uppermost surface positioned above the second upper surface of the forming tool. The combination of the positioning of the fairing bar and the use of release film in contact with the composite charge allows the composite charge to conform to the contoured forming tool without bridging or wrinkling the composite charge when a forming membrane and applied vacuum are used.

  • Patent number: 10478600
Abstract: A segmental crimper comprises at least three crimper segments and an actuator. The crimper segments are arranged circumferentially about a crimper axis that defines axial and radial directions. The crimper segments are movable relative to each other in a manner such that the crimper segments collectively define a variable size aperture that is aligned with the crimper axis. Each of the crimper segments comprises a radio frequency heating element. The actuator is operatively connected to the crimper segments in a manner such that movement of the actuator causes all of the crimper segments to simultaneously move relative to each other and alters the size of the aperture.

  • Patent number: 10182948
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for making absorbent cores used in disposable hygiene pads, the method or device comprising three steps: (A) suctioning of wood pulp fibers mixed with super absorbent polymers into a net structure on a base tissue to form an absorbent core; (B) compressing and embossing absorbent material; and (C) shaping of the absorbent core. The method of the current invention can be used for making different kinds of absorbent pad products. While increasing the tear strength of the product, the method realizes and simplifies the process of making both the absorbent material and the hygiene pad utilizing the absorbent material on the same manufacturing line, and reduces the cost of making the absorbent pads. The absorbent core made by applying the method of the current invention has a new structure formed by super absorbent polymers and wood pulp fibers, wherein the structure enables the super absorbent polymers to be evenly distributed in between the wood pulp fibers.

  • Patent number: 10117789
Abstract: An absorbent sheet manufacturing apparatus has a particle collision surface (224) that extends downward from a cylinder outer surface (211) in between the lowermost part of a supply cylinder (21) and a second sheet conveying roller (41). Some of the particles emitted forward in the rotation direction of the supply cylinder (21) from recessed supply portions (212) that have passed a first cover part (221) collide with the particle collision surface (224), and the colliding particles are guided by the particle collision surface (224) onto a first sheet member (91). This suppresses direct collision of particles emitted from the supply cylinder (21) with a second sheet member (92) on the second sheet conveying roller (41). Scattering of particles that have collided with the second sheet member (92) around the first sheet member (91) and the second sheet member (92) is thus suppressed.
