Patent number: 6450523Abstract: This invention relates generally to systems used to steer trailing sections of articulated vehicles and trailers. The preferred embodiment of this invention is a steerable dolly that can be manually and/or automatically switched among multiple modes. The dolly receives its primary input from the angle of the rear of the front trailer (or other towing vehicle). There are at least two modes. In one mode the wheels of the dolly are steered in the opposite direction as the rear trailer, providing more maneuverability. In the other mode the wheels are steered in the same direction, providing a more stable mode. It is envisioned that the more stable mode would be used at high speeds while the more maneuverable mode would be used at lower speeds. There is also disclosed an alternate steering algorithm, which provides for additional maneuverability beyond that of the mode in which the wheels are steered in an opposite direction.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2000Date of Patent: September 17, 2002Inventors: Nathan E. Patent number: 6371233Abstract: A snowmobile comprises a seat having a soft cushion layer, a more firm boundary layer, and a rigid support structure. Passages are provided between the soft cushion layer and a chamber such that air can be exchanged from within the seat and the chamber depending upon whether the operator is seated on the seat or standing above the seat. When an operator sits on the seat, air is forced out of the seat cushion material and into the chamber. When the operator stands and the seat cushion rebounds, air is provided to the seat from the chamber. The snowmobile also includes a lit trunk. The trunk is lit by a light bulb used for a rear tail light assembly. The light bulb is secured in a mounting plate that is formed of a translucent material that provides a window into the trunk. Patent number: 6341794Abstract: A trailer hitch alignment apparatus comprises a first guide member removably attached to a vehicle bumper and a second guide member removably attached to a trailer hitch socket. The first guide member includes a magnetic base with a telescopically extensible rod adjustably coupled thereto. The second guide member includes a magnetic base having an upwardly extending telescopic rod and a downwardly extending semi-flexible shaft attached thereto. The shaft extends downwardly through a bore defined by the trailer hitch tongue so as to contact the trailer hitch ball when the ball and socket are aligned. Contact between the shaft and ball causes vertical displacement of the shaft and guide rod. Therefore, the two telescopic guide rods, visible from a driver's seat, facilitates lateral alignment of the ball and socket while vertical displacement of the second rod indicates perfect forward alignment.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2000Date of Patent: January 29, 2002Inventor: Timothy J. Patent number: 6264224Abstract: A compact, covered front wheel drive assembly that replaces the handlebars on an existing bicycle frame. It drives the front wheel while standard bicycle foot pedals and drive train drive the rear wheel. However, it can also be operated independently of the foot pedals, or locked for use of the foot pedals alone. It has drive ratios and shifting that are independent of the rear drive train, and are configured for selectable, comfortable hand cranking rates, including normal bicycle cruising speed. Shift levers are mounted within reach of a rider's thumbs, without removing a hand from the cranks. A brake lever on each handle holds the brake cables forward at all times, eliminating interference both with the hand cranks and with obstacles brushing beside the bicycle.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1999Date of Patent: July 24, 2001Inventor: Cal M.
