  • Patent number: 6093122
Abstract: A parallelogram link mechanism of a bicycle derailleur has a coil spring tensioned from a first axis of the parallelogram to another axis thereof that is diametrically opposed to the first axis. The coil spring exerts a primary spring force against the rider-supplied derailleur actuation force throughout the actuation range of the derailleur. A secondary member exerts a secondary force throughout a portion of the actuation range of the derailleur, producing a substantially constant resultant actuation force experienced by the rider. The secondary member can take various forms, including an abutment member which selectively abuts the coil spring at an angle to the spring axis; a second spring internal to the first; a member which is attached to spaced-apart coils of the coil spring to limit their linear expansion; and an internal member which limits constriction of a segment of the coil spring inwardly toward the spring axis.

  • Patent number: 6090003
Abstract: A unidirectional roller chain sprocket for use primarily in automotive engine chain drive applications which incorporates an asymmetrical tooth for improved noise reduction. The sprocket includes a first plurality of sprocket teeth each having a first engaging flank with a first contact point at which a roller contacts the first engaging flank, and a second plurality of sprocket teeth each having a second engaging flank with a second contact point at which a roller contacts the second engaging flank. The first engaging flanks include a flank flat which facilitates spacing the first contact point on the first engaging flank relative to the second contact point on the second engaging flank to effect a time delay between an initial roller to first sprocket tooth contact and an initial roller to second sprocket tooth contact. The flank flat is tangent to an engaging flank radius and a first root radius.

  • Patent number: 6085957
Abstract: A volumetric feed control apparatus for a build material element such as a filament used in a three-dimensional modeling machine having an application tip includes a pair of feed rollers feeding the filament to the application tip, and a sensor or sensor system feeding information to a central processing unit that continuously computes the effective cross section of the filament using the signals received from the sensor or sensor system. The central processing unit controls the speed of a DC servo or stepper motor which in turn rotates the feed rollers to advance the filament toward the application tip of the modeling machine. The central processing unit adjusts the speed of the feed rollers to supply a constant flow rate of material to the application tip. Alternatively, the sensor system can be incorporated into the feed rollers, eliminating the need for further space constraints.

  • Patent number: 6068407
Abstract: The invention permits stacking of seals without possibility of the sticking of their synthetic rubber seal members to one another. Moreover, when assembling the seals to produce anti-friction bearings, the invention permits storing the seals as a stack in a stocker of an automatic assembler and, unlike the case of using silicon or like prior art anti-sticking material, substantially eliminates generation of fine particles or the like adversely affecting precision apparatuses and deteriorating the reliability thereof. In an anti-friction bearing comprising an inner ring (1), an outer ring (2), and rolling elements (3) provided between the inner and outer rings, a side gap between the inner and outer rings is closed by seals (4) of the invention, which each include a synthetic rubber seal member (6) and a surface active material (7) coated thereon.

  • Patent number: 6050914
Abstract: A chain tension relieving device which prevents excessive tension being applied to a tension run of a chain. A shoe (5C) engages a tension run (3B) of a chain (3) stretched between a driving sprocket (1) and a driven sprocket (2) from another side of the chain in a bowed portion of the chain (3). When the tension acting on the tension run (3B) is of a prescribed value or less, the shoe surface of the shoe (5C) is held to a given advanced position so as to bow the tension run of the chain (3) by a biasing force of mechanical tensioner (15D). When the tension exceeds the prescribed value, the tension side (3B) of the chain (3) is straightened against the biasing force of the mechanical tensioner and the shoe surface of the shoe (5C) retreats from the given advanced position.
