  • Patent number: 8396438
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate combining received signals from multiple receive antennas in a wireless communication environment. The received signals from the multiple receive antennas can be weighted utilizing an adaptive combination of maximal ratio combining (MRC) and interference nulling. The combination of MRC and interference nulling can be controlled based upon one or more configurable parameters. For instance, a covariance matrix can be modified to include the one or more configurable parameters, and the modified covariance matrix can be utilized in connection with interference nulling. Further, respective values for the one or more configurable parameters can be selected as a function of at least one input (e.g., measured interference-over-thermal (IoT) value, received loading level indicator, eigenvalue distribution of a covariance matrix, . . . ) related to noise correlation.

  • Patent number: 8391802
Abstract: The invention relates to the control and adaptation of transmit parameters for wireless communication between a transmitter (TX) and at least one receiver (RX) to provide joint power and link adaptation. A basic idea of the invention is to collectively determine the transmit duration (T) and transmit power (P) of the transmitter based on minimization of a given objective function representative of total consumed energy, on both the transmitting side and the receiving side, with respect to transmit duration and/or transmit power. In effect, this means that link transmit parameters are determined based on the energy consumption on both the transmitting side and the receiving side. In addition, both transmit power and transmit duration are varied, while minimizing overall consumed energy.

  • Patent number: 8385839
Abstract: A method for communication includes transmitting data from a transmitter to a receiver using Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM). The data rate is set by selecting, based on feedback, an ACM profile defining a Forward Error Correction code and a modulation scheme. Upon detecting that the feedback is unusable, an operation of the transmitter is changed independently of the feedback. In another method, data is exchanged over two opposite directions of a bidirectional link that uses ACM by communicating using two ACM profiles. A joint constraint is defined on the two directions. The two ACM profiles are set based on first and second measured reception quality metrics of the two link directions, to meet the joint constraint. In yet another method, a subset of the ACM profiles is temporarily disabled, and the data is transmitted using only the ACM profiles that are not disabled.

  • Patent number: 8340588
Abstract: A system for estimating parameters of an incoming signal is provided. At least one antenna is coupled to at least one suitable receiver. The antenna(s) are spatially translated in an arbitrary trajectory. As the antenna(s) is being spatially translated, a data processing means samples the incoming signal at set intervals based on a clock signal provided by a system clock. By sampling the incoming signal at different times at different spatial locations on the arbitrary trajectory, the system acts as a synthetic antenna array. The different samplings of the incoming signal at different times and positions provide signal diversity gain as well as different readings which can be used to estimate and/or calculate various parameters of the incoming signal. The different samplings can be used to detect the incoming signal, estimate its angle of arrival, estimate its time of arrival, as well as other parameters.
