  • Patent number: 9473712
Abstract: Systems and methods prevent friendly fire using infrared object recognition. An IR projector projects a beam of IR radiation at a first wavelength onto the object and an IR detector, having a field of view of the object, detects IR fluorescence from the object, where a wavelength of the fluorescence is a function of the first wavelength. The system includes a memory for storing software having machine readable instructions that, when executed by a processor, perform the steps of: (a) controlling the IR projector to generate IR at the first wavelength; (b) controlling the IR detector to capture the object fluorescence; and (c) identifying the object as friendly or non-friendly based upon the object fluorescence. The system further includes an inhibitor for preventing firing of a gun or missile when the object is identified as friendly.

  • Patent number: 9462271
Abstract: When generating a prediction image of a color difference signal, an intra prediction unit 4 carries out an intra prediction process on a target block to be encoded of a color difference signal by using the same intra prediction parameter as that which the intra prediction unit 4 uses when carrying out an intra prediction process on a target block to be encoded of a luminance signal, or carries out the intra prediction process on the target block to be encoded of the color difference signal by applying an average prediction to the target block to be encoded. A variable length encoding unit 13 variable-length-encodes a flag showing whether the intra prediction unit 4 uses the same intra prediction parameter as that used for the luminance signal.

  • Patent number: 9420311
Abstract: Sampled data is packaged in checkerboard format for encoding and decoding. The sampled data may be quincunx sampled multi-image video data (e.g., 3D video or a multi-program stream), and the data may also be divided into sub-images of each image which are then multiplexed, or interleaved, in frames of a video stream to be encoded and then decoded using a standardized video encoder. A system for viewing may utilize a standard video decoder and a formatting device that de-interleaves the decoded sub-images of each frame reformats the images for a display device. A 3D video may be encoded using a most advantageous interleaving format such that a preferred quality and compression ratio is reached. In one embodiment, the invention includes a display device that accepts data in multiple formats.

  • Patent number: 9351009
Abstract: A method for video coding is described. Signaling of a maximum number of sub-layers for inter-layer prediction is obtained. A sub-layer non-reference picture is also obtained. It is determined whether a value of a temporal identifier of the sub-layer non-reference picture is greater than the maximum number of sub-layers for inter-layer prediction minus 1. The sub-layer non-reference picture is marked as “unused for reference” if the value of the temporal identifier of the sub-layer non-reference picture is greater than the maximum number of sub-layers for inter-layer prediction minus 1. In some cases a sub-layer non-reference picture is also obtained. It is determined whether a value of a temporal identifier of the sub-layer non-reference picture is greater than the maximum number of sub-layers for inter-layer prediction.

  • Patent number: 9300925
Abstract: A method or system for multi-user access of a facility including multiple controlled locations is disclosed. In one step, an image of a person is obtained from a data store. An image capture device is correlated to a controlled location. An image is received for the controlled location. One or more sub-images of the image are determined. At least one of the sub-images is compared with the image of the person. Information is retrieved for the person and a control rule is retrieved for the controlled location. The system determines whether the person is allowed to access the controlled location. Depending on the determination, the system then sends a signal indicating access availability to the controlled location for the person.

  • Patent number: 9270993
Abstract: Codecs may be modified to consider weighting and/or illumination compensation parameters when determining a deblocking filter strength that is to be applied. These parameters may be useful for recording illumination changes, such as fades, cross-fades, flashes, or light source changes, which allows these illumination changes to displayed during playback using the same reference frame data which different weighting and/or illumination compensation parameters applied. In different instances, the parameters may be considered when setting a deblocking filter strength to ensure that these effects are properly displaying during playback while minimizing the appearance of blocking artifacts.

  • Patent number: 9218648
Abstract: A method and system for estimating motion blur of an image associated with a moving object. The direction of one-dimensional motion blur may be estimated by inspecting a power spectrum associated with the image. A radon transform with respect to the image power spectrum is computed in the direction of the motion blur. A family of kernels with respect to the one-dimensional motion blur may then be defined utilizing a shutter triggering sequence associated with an image capturing device. The family of kernels may be modeled utilizing a modulation transfer function (MTF). Each modulation transfer function may be compared with the radon transform of the power spectrum associated with the image via a correlation function. The kernel with highest correlation with respect to the radon transform of the image power spectrum may be employed for de-blurring the image.
