Abstract: Encoding a group of frames of a video sequence can include determining a stillness of the group of frames, in response to determining that the stillness of the group of frames meets stillness conditions, encoding the group of frames using a coding structure that is a one-layer coding structure, and, in response to determining that the stillness of the group of frames does not meet the stillness conditions, encoding the group of frames using the coding structure that is a multi-layer coding structure. Instructions for decoding a group of frames include instructions to determine, from an encoded bitstream, an indication of a coding structure used to encode the group of frames, receive the group of frames in a coding order of the coding structure, and decode the group of frames using the coding structure. The indication is one of a one-layer coding structure indication or a multi-layer coding structure indication.

  • Patent number: 10681379
Abstract: Techniques are described in which a decoder is configured to reorganize a first 2-dimensional coefficient block as a first 1-dimensional coefficient vector according to a coefficient scanning order and apply a first inverse transform to the first 1-dimensional coefficient vector to generate a second 1-dimensional coefficient vector. The first inverse transform is a non-separable transform. The decoder is further configured to reorganize the first 1-dimensional coefficient vector as a second 2-dimensional coefficient block and apply a second inverse transform to the second 2-dimensional coefficient block to generate a residual video block. The second inverse transform converts the second 2-dimensional coefficient block from a frequency domain to a pixel domain. The decoder is further configured to form a decoded video block, wherein forming the decoded video block comprises summing the residual video block with one or more predictive blocks.

  • Patent number: 10672102
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method receives spherical content for video and generates face images from the spherical content to represent an image in the video. A two dimensional sheet for the face images is generated. A size of the face images is reduced and a pixel frame around each of the plurality of face images is added on the sheet. Also, a plurality of gaps are added on the sheet in between edges of the face images that are neighboring. The method then adds gap content in the plurality of gaps where the gap content is based on content in an area proximate to the plurality of gaps. The method encodes the face images, the pixel frame, and gap content on the sheet and sends the encoded sheet to a decoder. The face images are decoded for placement on an object structure to display the spherical content.
