  • Patent number: 9634737
Abstract: Periodic near field directors (PNFDs) are coupled to a transmitter and a receiver for a short-range millimeter wave wireless (M2W2) interconnect for transmitting and receiving radio frequency (RF) signals at millimeter-wave frequencies for short-range communication with high data rate capability between the transmitter and receiver. Each of the periodic near field directors is comprised of one or more periodic coupling structures (PCSs), wherein the periodic coupling structures are comprised of metallic strips positioned such that their lengthwise dimension is substantially perpendicular to a propagation direction of the radio frequency signals between the transmitter and receiver. Each of the periodic coupling structures is positioned parallel to adjacent periodic coupling structures with a separation distance between each periodic coupling structure being within one wavelength of the radio frequency signal.

  • Patent number: 9628228
Abstract: Obtaining a timing reference in wireless communication is facilitated when desiring to communicate with a weak serving base station (such as an evolved NodeB) in the presence of a stronger interfering base station. The user equipment (UE) may track a stronger interfering base station's timing, or the UE may track a timing that is derived by a composite power delay profile (PDP) from multiple base stations. The composite PDP may be constructed by adjusting individual base station PDPs according to a weighting scheme. The timing obtained in such a manner may be used for estimation of the channel of the interfering base station and cancelling interfering signals from the base station. It may also be used to estimate the channel of the serving base station after adding a backoff. The UE may track a stronger interfering base station's frequency, or the UE may track a composite frequency.

  • Patent number: 9595926
Abstract: Provided herein are apparatus and methods for overdrive protection of radio frequency (RF) amplifiers. In certain configurations, an RF amplifier includes a plurality of amplification stages and an overdrive detection circuit. The overdrive detection circuit determines whether or not the RF amplifier is in an overdrive condition based on a current of an input amplification stage. Additionally, when the overdrive detection circuit detects an overdrive condition, the overdrive detection circuit controls an impedance of one or more feedback circuits of one or more amplification stages subsequent to the input amplification stage in a signal path of the RF amplifier to reduce the RF amplifier's gain. The overdrive protection schemes herein can be used to limit large current and voltage swing conditions manifesting within amplification transistors of the RF amplifier.

  • Patent number: 9596004
Abstract: A method and a system for communicating personal health data in a Near Field Communication (NFC) environment are provided. An NFC manager sets control information in an NFC Data Exchange Format (NDEF) for providing synchronized communication of personal health data between the NFC manager and an NFC agent. The control information may include a direction flag, a state flag, sequence identifier field, and request/response flag. The NFC manager writes the NDEF format including the control information and payload data into an NFC tag associated with the NFC agent. Subsequently, the NFC manager reads the NDEF record stored in the NFC tag and determines whether the NDEF record is written into the NFC tag by the NFC agent based on the control information in the read NDEF format. Accordingly, the NFC manager repeats the above mentioned steps if the NDEF record includes payload data of the NFC agent.

  • Patent number: 9560060
Abstract: Systems and methods can support identifying multiple radio transmitters as being integrated within a single communications device. Radio frequency signals may be collected using one or more sensors incorporating radio receivers. A first radio frequency signature and a second radio frequency signature may be identified within one or more of the radio frequency signals as originating respectively from a first radio transmitter and a second radio transmitter. Characteristics of the first and second radio frequency signatures may be analyzed to evaluate a relationship between the first and second radio frequency signatures. It may be determined whether or not the first and second radio transmitters are integrated within a common wireless electronic device based upon the evaluated relationship between the first radio frequency signature and the second radio frequency signature. Characteristics and behaviors associated with the wireless electronic device may be determined therefrom.
