  • Patent number: 6687655
Abstract: A method is provided for reserving, maintaining and releasing resources in the interior nodes located within an interior network positioned between edge nodes, wherein requests belonging to corresponding data microflows that continually arrive at any interior node do not establish any microflow reservation states, but these requests can establish, maintain and release either a part of, or an entire aggregated reservation state, using a combination of reservation soft state and explicit release principles. A window is applied to establish a first time period, which includes a selected cell in a sequence of time cells and also includes a number of additional cells preceding the selected cell. Arrival of reserve and refresh requests during the selected cell is detected to generate an rfcount associated with the selected cell.

  • Patent number: 6687645
Abstract: A system and method for generating motion and trajectory data for a multi-gimbaled rotating platform. The system includes a motion generating unit for generating a set of motion equations for each degree of rotational freedom of the multi-gimbaled rotating platform, where each set of motion equations defines the rotational movement of the platform about a gimbal pivot axis between a starting position and an ending position. The movement characteristics of the gimbals are provided to the motion generating unit for generating a set of motion equations which define the movement of the gimbals between the starting position and the ending position of the rotating platform. The set of motion equations simulating movement of the rotating platform may be further utilized to generate trajectory data for the object being supported by the platform, so that the effect of the motion of the rotating platform on the object can be simulated without requiring the rotating platform to be actually moved in a field test.

  • Patent number: 6684174
Abstract: A wind gauge apparatus and method. An illustrative embodiment includes a microphone positioned to engage wind pressure from a first relative direction and a controller coupled to receive an audio signal from the microphone. The controller compares the audio signal with plural threshold values, representative of wind pressure levels, and determines a first wind pressure level incident upon the microphone. Filtering and gain controls are used to condition the audio signal output from the microphone. Plural microphones are employed to allow that detection of wind direction and magnitude about a compass of directions. Digital signal processing is employed to process data. In an illustrative embodiment, the wind direction and magnitude data are used to recommend a golf club size adjustment and a golf swing direction adjustment to the user, who has taken a measurement of the wind with respect to a reference golf swing direction.

  • Patent number: 6678638
Abstract: A processor having an execution result prediction function for an instruction that performs a branch/value prediction by which a high percentage of correct predictions can be realized ought to be provided. Accordingly, in a branch/value prediction circuit having a set associative, a priority of an entry used for a prediction is increased only when an execution result is referred to for the prediction and the prediction is correct, and the execution result is registered in the entry of the lowest priority when the execution result for the instruction is newly registered in a history table. Thus, the entry of a low percentage of correct predictions becomes easy to erase and prediction accuracy can be increased by updating the priority only when the prediction is correct.

  • Patent number: 6665628
Abstract: Methods are provided for virtually embedding and/or de-embedding balanced four-port networks into/from a device under test (DUT). For the methods, a set of scattering-parameters is acquired for the DUT. Additionally, a respective set of scatter-parameters is acquired for each of the balanced four-port networks to be embedded and/or de-embedded. A transfer-matrix is generating for the DUT based on its scattering parameters. Further, a respective transfer-matrix is generated for each of the networks to be embedded/de-embedded based on its respective set of scattering-parameters. The transfer-matrix for the DUT is then multiplied with the one or more transfer-matrices associated with the balanced four-port networks to be embedded and/or by an inverse of the transfer-matrices associated with the balanced four-port networks to be de-embedded. A composite transfer-matrix is thereby produced. Finally, a set of composite scattering-parameters is then generated based on the composite transfer-matrix.

  • Patent number: 6651019
Abstract: A method and apparatus by which accurate correction values for thermal displacement is calculated even when the rotation of the main spindle is restarted after interruption. The apparatus has means 2, 3 for measuring the temperature near the main spindle 15, means 5 for estimating the thermal displacement of the main spindle 15 on the basis of the measured temperature and a predetermined thermal displacement calculation expression, means 7 for calculating the correction value, and means 6 which estimates the displacement delay in re-rotation caused by the interruption of the rotation of the main spindle 15, and calculates an adjusting displacement on the basis of the estimated displacement delay. The correction value calculating means 7 calculates a correction value on the basis of the thermal displacement estimated by the thermal displacement estimating means 5 alone when the main spindle 15 is started up and rotated.

  • Patent number: 6631336
Abstract: A method and device applicable to HV generators and X-ray tubes, and a computer program and support for the program. In the method a determination is made of a scale of values representing the energy of the radio-frequency spectrum transmitted by radio wave over a given period in the electric discharges appearing in the system for a given test voltage, by artificially varying in the system the level of pollution of the system until dielectric failure of the system. A limiting value is chosen embracing the admissible pollution tolerances on manufacture. A measurement is made for each system of the same product type of the quantity of energy of the radio-frequency spectrum transmitted by radio wave by each of the systems under the same conditions. A comparison is made of the quantities measured with the limiting value chosen to determine a possible fluctuation of quality of the systems produced.

  • Patent number: 6625570
Abstract: A system and method for regulating an adjustable DC supply and continuously and remotely monitoring measurements of reference cell potential and/or current for cathodic protection of a structure is disclosed. Cathodic protection devices use a logic circuit and/or microprocessor based monitor for removing identifiable components and noise from the system to arrive at the DC bias. A method is implemented herein to arrive at the true value of a reference cell potential measurement determined within a sample collection point or window calculated for the reference cell signal while the impressed current is still being applied. This measurement can be compared to a calculated shutdown and is communicated to a central computer accessible via a network such as the Internet. All output is automatically regulated and checked for target window accuracy using an automated voting scheme.

  • Patent number: 6622105
Abstract: A method and system for detecting acceleration and force data associated with a rotating device or rotating system is disclosed, which includes a sine table and a cosine table that may be created based on a particular number of measured data points per revolution of the rotating device or rotating system. Data contained within the sine and cosine tables are then dynamically correlated to obtain acceleration and force data associated with the rotating device or rotating system, wherein dynamically correlated data are thereby utilized to determine a required correction necessary to place the rotating device or rotating system in a balanced state. An error calculated based on a sample size and the number of samples obtained since a last index pulse can be utilized to compute the validity of the data.
