Abstract: The apparatus for monitoring continuous feeding of articles which belong to different classes having different ranges of a characteristic value, and which are provisionally collated according to a given order of the classes in cyclic manner. A detector is provided to sequentially detect articles during the course of the continuous feeding so as to sample a characteristic value D.sub.mn of each article, where m denotes a cycle number and n denotes an order of the article in an m-th cycle. A memory is provided to store a given n-th reference characteristic value D(n) and a corresponding allowance value .DELTA.D.sub.n, which are specific to an n-th order of the class. An n-th test reference range is set in the form of D(n).+-..DELTA.D.sub.n. Judgement is carried out in the m-th cycle such as to test whether the sampled characteristic value D.sub.mn falls within the n-th test reference range D(n).+-..DELTA.D.sub.n to thereby monitor occurrence of misfeeding.

  • Patent number: 5355323
Abstract: An automatic control method for an air conditioner which can optimize the indoor temperature and humidity, wherein an adequate dehumidifying operation is performed by recognizing the humidity according to the weather based on the outdoor temperature changes preceived by the outdoor temperature sensor for a certain time period, which provides comfortable surroundings and increases the efficiency of the air conditioner as well by preventing apparatus freeze resulting from a prolonged dehumidifying operation under low temperatures.

  • Patent number: 5353236
Abstract: A method for constructing an image of a macromolecular crystal includes steps of providing an envelope which defines the region of a unit cell occupied by the macromolecule; distributing a collection of scattering bodies within the envelope; condensing the collection of scattering bodies to an arrangement that maximizes the correlation between the diffraction pattern of the crystal and a pattern of Fourier amplitudes for the collection of scattering bodies; determining the phase associated with at least one of the Fourier amplitudes of the condensed collection of scattering bodies; calculating an electron density distribution of the crystal from the phase information; and defining an image of the macromolecule in the electron density distribution.

  • Patent number: 5351202
Abstract: An apparatus and method for quantitatively ranking the performance of each attribute contributing to a manufacturing process. Various signals representing the measure (i.e., quality or yield) of a manufacturing run and representing the attributes that contributed to each manufacturing run are recorded. An iterative process is commenced whereby numeric weights are assigned to each attribute. In a first iterative step, the weight of each attribute is determined to be the weighted average of the measure of each manufacturing run to which that attribute contributed. In subsequent iteration steps, a refined weight for each attribute is determined by computing the ratio between the normalized measure and the product of all other weights associated with that manufacturing run. The iterations are continued until the weights determined for each attribute converge or become self consistent.

  • Patent number: 5343393
Abstract: A steering angle detecting apparatus for accurately and surely detecting a steering angle of a motor vehicle. The apparatus is equipped with a turning angle detector for detecting a turning angle of a steering wheel of the motor vehicle. In addition, the apparatus estimates a turning angle of the steering wheel on the basis of the difference in speed between left and right wheels of the motor vehicle so as to calculate the difference in phase between the detection turning angle and the estimation turning angle. For detecting the accurate vehicle steering angle, the detection turning angle is corrected on the basis of the calculated phase difference therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5327357
Abstract: A method of decarburizing molten metal in the refining of steel using neural networks with a first neural network trained to analyze data representative of many process periods of one or more decarburization operations for providing an oxygen count for a preselected gas ratio of oxygen to diluent gas to cause the temperature of the molten metal bath to be decarburized to rise to a specified aim temperature and with a second neural network trained to analyze data representative of many process periods of one or more decarburization operations for providing an output schedule of oxygen counts to be injected into the bath to reduce the carbon level to a predetermined aim level in one or more successive stages corresponding to a preselected schedule of ratios of oxygen to diluent gas.

  • Patent number: 5323329
Abstract: An RF generator has an analog feedback circuit in combination with a digital levelling assist circuit to compensate for non-linearities in the power metering circuit that measures the RF output energy. The digital leveling assist circuit has a digitizer with inputs coupled to receive the measured power voltage supplied from the power metering circuit and a power demand voltage. The digitizer has outputs that provide digital representations of the measured power voltage and the power demand voltage to a digital control element that derives a digital correction factor based on these digital representations. A d/a converter coupled to the digital control element provides a correction voltage corresponding to this digital correction factor, and this is furnished to a summing circuit that combines the correction voltage with the power demand voltage and with a control voltage that is supplied by the analog feedback circuit.

  • Patent number: 5321632
Abstract: By measuring the waveform of the reflected wave obtained by transmitting a pulse to an open-ended transmission line, a transfer function of the transmission line with respect to the incident wave is computed as a result of the measurement. Then, the waveform of the output wave at the output end or the open end of the transmission line is estimated in response to an individual input signal by using the transfer function computed. The transmission delay time of the transmission line is obtained by computing the time difference between the transient timing of the estimated waveform of the output wave and the transient timing of the waveform of the input signal.

  • Patent number: 5319554
Abstract: The method sequentially determines dips and corresponding estimated dip components of traces in a panel of data. The method can be applied to any data which can be represented as a function of two coordinates. In particular, the method can be applied to seismic data traces. The method in one embodiment sums data on traces along a preselected range of trial dips on a panel of data. The energy of the summed data with their corresponding trial dip are then displayed. The dip which has the peak of maximum energy on the display is then selected as a valid dip. An estimated dip component of the selected dip is then determined and subtracted from the traces along the selected dip. The process is then repeated, sequentially, determining a dip and an estimated dip component from the panel of data until the desired number of dips and estimated dip components are determined or the residual energy of the remaining data on the traces are below a preselected value.

  • Patent number: 5297028
Abstract: An angular rate sensor for a vehicle navigation system stores an environmental temperature and a related null voltage each time the vehicle stops. The pairs of data points are stored in a non-volatile look-up table for use during vehicle motion. During vehicle motion, the environmental temperature is measured, and a null voltage is selected from the look-up table corresponding to the measured temperature. The null voltage is used to correct drift offset. Interpolation is used when data keyed to the measured temperature cannot be found in the look-up table.
