  • Patent number: 10314725
Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods and systems for receiving, with processing circuitry of an implant device, an electrical signal from a free tissue graft attached to a portion of a nerve (e.g., a nerve branch or fascicle) through an electrical conductor in electrical communication with the free tissue graft (e.g., muscle graft), the nerve having reinnervated the free tissue graft. The electrical signal from the free tissue graft has a voltage amplitude of greater than or equal to about 150 microvolts. The processing circuitry stores signal data corresponding to the electrical signal from the free tissue graft in a memory accessible to the processing circuitry.

  • Patent number: 10271943
Abstract: A soft tissue graft suitable for replacing a tendon or ligament is fastened in a bone opening provided in a human or animal patient by press-fitting an end portion of the graft and a fastener into the bone opening such that the graft end portion is pressed against a first portion of the bone wall inside the bone opening. The fastener is anchored in a second portion of the bone wall by liquefying a material having thermoplastic properties by the fastener and making the fastener penetrate into the bone wall. An end portion of the graft is tied to the fastener with the aid of at least one suture extending from the graft end portion. Tying is carried out after anchoring, during anchoring or between anchoring and press-fitting. The tied connection between the fastener and the graft end portion successfully counteracts potential graft slipping.

  • Patent number: 10213312
Abstract: During hip replacement surgery, a practitioner can attach a distal stem to a femur of the patient and can then fixedly attach a proximal body to the distal stem using a bolt. Prior to tightening, the bolt can be heated to an elevated temperature greater than average human core body temperature. The practitioner can tighten the bolt to a specified torque while the bolt is at the elevated temperature. After tightening, the bolt cools to average human core body temperature and experiences a tensile stress due to the effects of thermal expansion. The tensile stress in the bolt produces a compressive force between the distal stem and the proximal body. The compressive force can increase the attachment strength of the bolt to the distal stem and the proximal body, beyond what can be achieved by solely torquing the bolt to the specified level during surgery without first heating the bolt.
