  • Patent number: 6256891
Abstract: A light duty electric reciprocating handsaw includes a body assembly having a throat therein, a removably and reciprocally attached saw blade within the body assembly spanning the opening of the throat so that any workpiece that fits inside the throat can be cut across its width. The handsaw is either electrically or battery operated and includes an electric motor mounted within the body assembly, the weight of the motor being generally distributed over the saw blade. Preferably, the throat of the body assembly is generally defined by an upside down U-shaped configuration for receiving the workpiece therein after cutting with the saw blade. A balance of the weight is located generally over the saw blade, with the remainder of the weight of the unit being distributed generally evenly throughout the rest of the handsaw such that the operator will experience an aid in cutting the workpiece through the force of gravity.

  • Patent number: 6244146
Abstract: A tablet shearing apparatus includes a support frame comprising a top frame member having an opening, a stationary plate secured to the top frame member. The stationary plate includes apertures extending about substantially the entirety of the opening of the top frame member. A movable plate including apertures is disposed above the stationary plate. A drive cylinder is connected through a linkage arm and an actuator arm to the movable plate. A tablet tray having apertures for receiving tablets can be positioned above the movable plate to transfer tablets to the apertures of the movable plate and the stationary plate so that, when individual tablets are supported in the apertures of both the stationary plate and the movable plate, the drive cylinder moves the movable plate relative to the stationary plate and shears the tablets. The tablet shearing apparatus also includes a tablet release gate having keyhole shaped apertures.

  • Patent number: 6240642
Abstract: A telescoping series of coaxial nested tubes 1-4 extend to provide an elongated handle. Each inner tube of the series has a back end with a gradual conical flare. Each tube that encloses a smaller tube has a front end with a gradual conical reduction. At full extension the tubes stop and bind against each other, so no clamps or screws are needed. A pruning saw blade 7 is attached to the front end of the innermost tube 4. The innermost tube is shorter than the outer tube 1 by at least the length of the saw blade, so that all the tubes and the blade retract within the outer tube. Caps 10 and 13 close the outer tube on each end. A resilient damper in each cap presses against the ends of the inner tubes, preventing motion and noise among them. A spare saw blade can be enclosed in the innermost tube 4. It can be retained in a hole in the back damper 11, or in a resilient slotted plug in the innermost tube. The front cap 13 preferably includes a direction-finding compass 15 for wilderness use.

  • Patent number: 6227092
Abstract: A motor driven slitting knife assembly is provided with a quick disconnect arrangement for permitting rapid replacement of a slitting knife. The motor is provided with a rotatable hub having a radially extending flange. A slitting knife is mounted on one side of the flange and a piston and cylinder assembly is mounted on an opposite side of the flange. A plurality of headed bolts are mounted on the piston and extend through elongated slots in the slitting knife. The elongated slots have an enlarged end and a smaller end whereby, upon rotation of the knife in one direction with the heads of the bolts out of engagement with the knife, the knife may be removed over the heads of the bolts and upon rotation of the knife in the opposite direction, the heads can engage the knife upon movement of the headed bolts to clamp the knife against the flange for rotation therewith.

  • Patent number: 6196102
Abstract: A folded/unfolded paper towel dispensing apparatus, includes a housing having a cover, a drum, an associated cutting device incorporated in the drum, and a tensioning device. An eccentric lever and a spring are used to actuate and reverse the direction of the drum, in which the upper part of the housing includes two flanges capable of accommodating a reel of paper towel. The drum and the tensioning device are secured between flanges located at right angles to the rear plane of the housing. The apparatus includes a device for controlling the rotation of the drum, fitted with a shaped lever hinged at its base in opposition to an elastic return spring, the upper part of the lever being fitted with a support shaft, supporting a pair of freely rotatable pulleys. A first pulley is associated through a drive belt with the drum and tensioning device before the paper is cut, and a second pulley is arranged so as to come into contact with the rear of the reel of material.

  • Patent number: 6173636
Abstract: A paper machine for one of making and processing a fiber material web. A plurality of rolls carry the fiber material web. The plurality of rolls include a load roll and another roll defining a nip therebetween. The fiber material web travels through the nip and defines a gore with the load roll on an approach side of the nip. A movable cutoff knife includes a cutting edge positioned in the gore at a slight distance from the nip and adjacent to the fiber material web. At least one impulse exchanger is positioned in association with the cutoff knife. The impulse exchanger is configured to transfer impulse energy to the cutoff knife whereby the cutting edge cuts the fiber material web.

  • Patent number: 6152004
Abstract: An apparatus for the stack formation is described, by means of which a practically continuous individual stack formation is possible from a stream of slices produced by means of a cutting apparatus. For this purpose a partial stack is formed by means of a stack receiver, and is transferred for the further stack formation to a portioning band, so that, during the continuation of the stack formation on the portioning band, a return guidance of the stack receiver can take place into a position from which it can be shot anew into the stream of slices for the formation of a next partial stack.
